Another Walmart blunder!

Deny a service dog entry to the store? The dog is a pitbull however it had passed all tests to start training as a service dog. I know I wouldn't personally own certain breeds but I also understand that it is the raising of a dog that makes a difference not necessarily the breed! I'm not a pit, rottie, or poodle person!! (yes, I have alot of respect for poodles, I was attacked by 2 as a child!!) However if a dog has passed the tests to become a service dog I have no problems with it!! I do hope Walmart gets through to its employees though that if it is a service dog it has a right to be there! Breed doesn't a mean dog make, owners make them!

some people make it bad for others. I was in the grocery store the other week and a woman had a dog which was obviously not a service dog and a huge cat in her lap. She was in a wheel chair but had someone with her. I walked away shaking my head.

Is there an article because the video said it was in training. Which they are still allowed into businesses. I think the biggest problem is people are bringing ALL dogs into stores and making vests for their dogs even when they are not "service" dogs.

Is it reasonable for a person to choose that breed of dog to train for service knowing that they will most certainly encounter such objections??

I could not find where print media has done an article. however I did find Chloe's site that tells the incident and what has been done. Apparently Pit Bulls can be service dogs in California according to the site and the attorney contacted on it. There was alot of things listed. It is a very well organized site and it sounds as if they are truely trying to get the info out there that not every dog is bad. I do think there is alot of bad hype associated with certain breeds. Personally I have seen alot of german sheperds used as service dogs, well I have also had 3 go after me personally in one day! (I was delivering the paper as a teen) Does it make the breed bad, No, but it doesn't mean I want to own one. Again under the right ownership a dog can become very well socialized and be a great dog. The site has some great info about service dog FAQ's too. I actually found her site very informative. We are wanting to train our Aussie as a service dog for my brother. However she is still a pretty spastic puppy!! My thought about people making service dog vests is that maybe the Service Dog Certification should be carried in a pocket in the vest. They need to be hard to duplicate somehow, but I really don't know how that would be accomplished. Maybe a special badge with the pic or something.
