Another waitlist question

I am currently on a waitlist that requires 2 points less than the original reservation. If the waitlist comes through, what happens to those 2 points? Back into my account, right? I think it's set up to expire at 31 days before check in. If I extend it to 7 days and the waitlist comes through will those points go into a holding account?

If they were points that had not been banked or borrowed they go back into your account in their use year and are subject to the regular banking rules.

If they were banked or borrowed points they go back to your account in the use year they were banked/borrowed into and will expire at the end of that use year.

If you extend the waitlist to 7 days and it comes through (30 days or less prior to arrival), then yes, the 2 extra points will go into holding. They will be returned to the current use year - the one that includes your vacation dates.

No matter if the returned points were originally banked, borrowed or current, they will now expire at the end of the use year. The cannot be banked. They can only be used to reserve a stay that begins no more than 60 days from the date you make the reservation.

Sometimes, it worth extending the waitlist even though you know you will lose the extra points. I "lost" 5 points once in a similar situation, but it was totally worth it because we didn't have to move in the middle of our stay. I just considered the 5 points as the price to "stay put". I still felt sad about the lost points, though.

Thanks for the quick replies!! Still trying to decide.........still have 3 weeks or so. I would hate to lose even 2 points.
