Another waitlist question

Sorry, I would have thought this one would have been answered, but my searching skills are not up to the task.

Can I use points that would result from a cancellation to confirm a waitlisted reservation, or must I have all the points?

Example: I want MK view, which is 180 points. It's not available, but LV is at 160 points. I have 180 points in my account. I book LV, which leaves me with 20 points. Can I waitlist the same dates in MK view, with instructions to cancel my LV if it comes though, or will the waitlist not be possible since, once I book LV, I don't have 180 points?

That's what I assumed, but did not get an accurate answer from MS. Thanks. They say that points must be available, or at least borrowable, and points taken up by booked reservations don't count. Maybe I just need to call again or book on line. I think it will let me.

You will have to cancel the first to get the second. That's why you were told that points taken up by booked reservations don't count.n There's the slight chance that the new could be lost in those few seconds, minutes.

But what does that have to do with waitlisting? I thought waitlisting was supposed to happen automatically. Does this mean the answer is no, I can't waitlist -- that's the question.

You can waitlist. There is even an online option to cancel an existing reservation if the waitlist works. Or MS can note that you will be cancelling the existing reservation to book the waitlisted one.

Thanks all. That's what I figured. I'll just try again tomorrow and see what they say.
