So yesterday, after getting my car out of the shop for an unexpected $245, I came home to a warm (10 year old) refrigerator. In this refrigerator, Tom was thawing...all 19 LBS of him.

I FREAKED!!! I'm thinking, "here goes another $1200 for a new fridge, and there went Christmas - right out the window"...not to mention poor Tom and Turkey day.

I called Sears, got an appointment for "between noon and 5pm". Oh, great. And they don't carry many parts on their trucks, and it takes 2-10 days to get some parts. Lovely. And they're gonna charge me $60 to tell me they don't have the part.

Well, miraculously, I begged and pleaded with the repairman to "be my hero", and he was. Sure, it was $200.71, but the bird is safely cooling again (he was still frozen in the middle), and I'm a very happy camper with a smooth-running Chevy Blazer and Kenmore Fridge.

Mr. Repairman got one of my world-famous freshly baked brownies. I mean, the butter was going bad, I had to bake SOMETHING.

I hope my family doesn't mind home-made gifts this year...

I know how you feel about those repair before Christmas!! Last year, our van broke down December 23rd, just as we were about to leave to go to my SIL's house. $500 and 2 weeks later, we finally had it back. Then, got home from church and my mom's house on Christmas Eve about 10 at night, we were all tired so we went right to bed. DH woke up about 3 in the morning, woke me up because we could smell gas in the house. Looked at the thermostat and it read 57 degrees!! Got a new furnace on the 26th (and we had just closed on the house the 1st of November!!). Merry Christmas to us!!

Yep,

For us, furance, washer/dryer, van repair. I hope that's it for awhile.

Have a good holiday!

sorry to hear about your run of bad luck....

keep smiling things will get better...

Glad Sears came thru for you....I just rec'd call from Firestone on our van....1167.00! :( We were thinking more along the tweek it for the road 2-300 bill...)but now I have to decide what I can afford to have done and what I can't. We are driving to Fl for Xmas and DH was toying around w/the idea of a portable dvd for the kids....ummmmm, I guess I don't have to waste time researching those now! We had also decided to buy our nephews the portable screen for their PS2...may have to rethink that one. Oh well....life DOES go on...and in the grand scheme of things is 1100 gonna make or break us in the long run? No....but it sure does put a damper on things. Plus I only have 52,000miles on the van....makes me a little skeptical....
Pam
Enjoy Turkey Day!

Sorry to hear about your luck but know how you feel!! We came home last weekend from a trip to the Mall to find our roof leaking, luckily just in the foyer.
