Another Use Year question

We just returned from World Disney World and stayed at Bake Lake Tower via renting points. While we were there, we decided to purchase the Disney Vacation Club at the Villas at Disney'sGrand Californian Hotel and Spa with the August Use Year. We purchased 270 points at $95 (with $17 per point discount instead of taking a free cruise offer.) We also received points from 2009 and decided to bank the points thinking that we are not going on another vacation by August 2010. We don't receive our regular points until August 2010, but made a reservation for Febuary of 2011 (use of 112 points.) Since we banked our 2009, we didn't have any points available so we ended up borrowing the points. So my question is are those 112 points coming out from our banked 2009 points or our upcoming 2010 points? I'm planning on using some of my vacation points for friends' honeymoon in Cancun (using the RCI exchange) and wanted to know if I need to wait until August to use the banked 2009, or if I book it now and it's still going to come out of 2009 points. My assumption was that the points are taken out when you travel not when you make the reservation. I would appreciate any advice or answer to my a little complicated question. :)

The trip you have in February is during your 2010 Use Year (August 1, 2010 thru July 31, 2011). You could have used banked points from your 2009 Use Year, current points from the 2010 Use Year or borrowed points from the 2011 Use Year for that trip.

Most likely, MS used the banked 2009 points for that trip and you will still have additional banked points to use by July 31, 2011. We always ask MS to verify the balance in our account after every reservation and you can now verify the status of the account online at DVCmember.com . I would either check online or call MS to verify whether banked points were used. Hopefully, you did not borrow any points from your 2011 Use Year for that reservation.

The points are debited from the account when the reservation is made, but you have until 24 hours before arrival to cancel and have the points returned to your account (with restrictions if canceled 30 days or less prior to arrival). As long as the points are already banked they may be used for a reservation between 8/1/10 and 7/31/11. Use Year has nothing to do with when you may make a reservation, it only determines the effective dates for those points. As long as you will have points available for the dates of the desired stay you will be able to make a reservation 11 months ahead at your home resort or 7 months ahead at any other DVC resort.

Enjoy! :)

:lmao:

I'm sure that it was just a typo but I guess that name would fit too. After all its so hot can feel like you are baking when you are WDW!

You're right Rob, it is a typo. It was pretty hot and humid while we visited mid May, but I really enjoying the hot weather (coming from a goofy cold and rainy unusual California weather this year.) The Bay Lak Tower was wonderful and we really enjoyed our stay on the 12th floor (8222), two bedroom suite. We had the perfect view of the castle and space mountain, and just spectacular fireworks view.
We decided to buy the Villas at Disney Grand Californian because we would visit Disneyland more often than Disney World. I'm really looking forward to treating my godson to a disney birthday, staying right next to the park.

Webmaster Bob, I checked my points online and this is what it showed:

Total Vacation Points Summary

Use YearAugust 2009
Total Annual Allotment of Vacation Points
270
Total Vacation Points Remaining
0
Total Vacation Points Available to Bank
0

Use YearAugust 2010
Total Annual Allotment of Vacation Points
270
Total Vacation Points Remaining
428
Total Vacation Points Available to Bank
0
Total Vacation Points Available to Borrow
270

Since I haven't receive the points for Use year August 2010, I woud know if they use the points from 2009 or they borrow the points from 2010. The reservation states I borrowed the points so is that mean they used the points from 2010 and I still have to use 270 from 2009 by July of 2011?

OK, that summary shows that you have banked you 2009 points into the 2010 Use Year. Since it shows that you can still borrow up to 270 points from the 2010 Use Year, it means none of your 2010 points were used for your reservation (and it wouldn't have been borrowing anyway, since the reservation is in the same Use Year) - so that means they used 112 banked points leaving you with 158 banked points plus the 270 in your 2010 Use Year for the total of 428 available to use in 2010.

Looks like everything is fine.

Enjoy! :)

BAsed on what you posted, they used the 2009 points for you. Notice that it says you still have 270 points that you can still borrow from your 2010 UY, yet you have a total of 428.

So, the 112 came from the banked points and you still have 158 left banked 2009 points that must be used prior to July 31st, 2011

Thank you WebmasterDoc and Sandisw!!! Now I undertand it and stressing less that we might be using bankable points, instead of already banked points. Now I can book a Novmber 2010 honeymoon for a friend and not worry about using up all my upcoming 2010 points.
