Hello,

I am interested in joining the DVC, but still trying to convince my husband. One question I have is which use year should I try to get? We normally travel spring break and early to mid-may and also late Nov early Dec. I was thinking October would be best as I would have until May 31st to bank points if I needed to.

Any recommendations or opinions?

Thanks

Choose a UY that is just before the time of year that you mostly vacation at WDW.

I agree - October would be a good use year for you.

September would also work. You have to cancel at least 31 days prior to arrival to avoid having the points go into the holding account. If points are in the holding account, they can't be banked. Since you would be canceling that early May trip in April, you'd still be able to bank the returned points. Also, a September use year would allow you to travel in October (in case you want to try MNSSHP some time instead of MVMCP). :)

Couldn't I travel in October anyway as long as it is after Oct. 1st when my points would be deposited?

Also, for example, say I had a trip booked for May 17th, would I have to cancel by April 16th to be able to have the points redeposited?

Thanks

Yes to both questions. I think the Oct UY would work great for you.

If you have a Oct UY, you need to bank your points by May 31. Points not banked have to be used before Oct 1 or you lose them.

Oops! Sorry. YES! You could absolutely travel in October with an October use year. (I really only meant to say that a September use year would also work for May vacations).

You have to cancel at least 31 days in advance of arrival to avoid the holding account. If you cancel 30 days or less prior to arrival, the points are still returned to your account, but they will be in "holding status". That means they cannot be banked and expire at the end of the current use year.

Holding account points can only be used to book a vacation that will occur 60 days or less from the time you make the reservation. Availability is often very limited at the 60 day mark, so it is very possible that you will not be able to use holding points before they expire.
