I know, I know -- we have enough of these, but I just have to ask for myself :rolleyes1

Have you been upgraded at the Contemporary upon check-in?

We have a regular room booked for next weekend. I really, really want to wake up and see the MK. :cloud9: I just could not bring myself to pay the price difference. The CM who took the ressie and I got to talking and I told her it was my birthday trip, and she made a note in the system.

I intend on asking if there are any tower rooms available when we arrive, and if there are, I may very well pay for it. Once I get there my judgement gets a little cloudy :rolleyes1

Shells9,
We went April 1, 2003 and stayed at the CR. I had booked a wing room because of cost, and once we got there was hoping for an upgrade also. It was my daughters 13th birthday and the CM knew this, but no upgrade offered. We waited to see where she placed us and she had us in the North Wing. We then asked if there were any upgrades available and she checked with someone in the back and she said we could upgrade for $600 more. I about hit the floor. We talked about it, and my husband just said, "could you please give us a better deal?" and the CM went to the back again and came back with an amount of $400. We went ahead and did it, and were very spoiled to the ease of the tower, but I hated spending that much extra money. Things are tight for us.
MY sister and her family went in early December of 2003 and they had a room booked in the wing at the CR also. Upon check in they never asked for an upgrade, but were given one complimentary to the tower. I was so jealous. I think a lot depends on the time of year that you are there. Things are much less booked in early December than when we went in April.
Good luck when you go- maybe there will be magic waiting for you with a free upgrade. You will love the tower if you get put there. It is so convienent. CR is one of our favorites!! HAVE FUN!!

What was the condition of the Garden Wing room in which you stayed? I'm going in June and need rom. Also: do you remember the room number and what view?

I too am staying at the CR in Oct. However, I did book a Tower room b/c I thought my chances were better for me to get a MK view. instead of getting a cheaper standard room and not being able to get upgraded. I put on my reservation for a MK view so I am hoping that I will get one. Otherwise I will be sad if I don't after spending the extra on the room. I also asked for a smoking room which so I hope they will honor both requests.

Has anyone else requested a MK view and smoking and got them both? If I was to ask about an upgrade when I get there, what kind of other upgrade could you get since I already paid for a tower room?

Hi - We have received an upgrade at the Contemporary both times we stayed there. The first one was the week after Memorial Day 1998 - we were on our honeymoon. We were supposed to be on a cruise on the Big Red Boat and the cruise got cancelled the day we were supposed to sail. Premier cruises put us up in a hotel for 2 nights in Orlando while they got the refunds taken care of (yeah right) and we called to get the cheapest room at the Contemporary. I told the CM that took the reservation that we were trying to salvage a honeymoon and what had happened with the cruise ship. It was big news around Orlando for a couple of days, and the CM said she had heard about it on the news. Anyway, long and short of it is that when we went to check in, expecting to stay out in the wings, they had upgraded our room to the Concierge level at the cheap price. It was wonderful! We had a view of the Castle as well. That was our first trip staying onsite - many magical moments.

The second time we stayed there was for our 2nd anniversary. We payed wing prices but stayed on the lagoon side in the tower - free upgrade. Gotta love it!

We went on July 4th and got upgraded one year. We have stayed at the CR several times and this was the only time that we have been upgraded.

Well, looks like a mixed bag, but at least the possibility is not ruled out!:D
Thanks to all who responded!
:thewave:

This past October my mom, 2dd's and myself had a garden wing room booked for 4 nights. I did fax in for a possible request of a view of the castle. I made no demands and no other requests. On check in I did inquire if they received my fax (I did not ask the cm on checkin about an upgrade) she nodded her head with a smile and started handing me all the maps ect you get on checkin. Then she started explaining to me how to get to our roomin the tower. The tower!!! I couldnt believe it and well yes I will admit it...I started with the happy "I am at Disney!" tears! I thanked her for starting our vacation with magic and headed up to our room. 14th floor and WHAT a FANTASTIC view !!! I slept every night upside down just falling to sleep watching the Castle change colors.

We stayed at the Contemporary in Oct 2003. We had booked two rooms, one for my family and one for my sister and BIL. We had asked for rooms close to each other. When we arrived we were told we had gotten an upgrade and were given a suite. It wasn't a tower view but WOW what a room compared to what we were planning on.

I have recently read mixed reviews of faxing in requests. Some people say do it, others say don't bother them.

I think I will do it.

Jiggerj -- how far in advance did you fax?

We went in december one year (2001) and it was our 10 year anniversary, and we got in late -- around 10 pm. they gave us a room way in the back of the wing farthest from MK, and the view was of a brick wall!! I was so upset and started tearing up.
Well, I went into the bathroom for a tissue and found hair on the bathtub, not just a little either.
So, my husband went to the front desk and told them this was our 10 yr. anniversary, and it had been noted on the ressies,
and we had a brick wall and hair in the tub. NOt to mention his wife was in tears.

the manager came back with him and looked at the room and by this time it was 11 pm and my son was sound asleep! but he said he would move us to a suite. So we carried the kids, and luggage and....

Wow, what a move!! we got a regular room connected to a suite with anoter pull down bed, a sleeper sofa, a large dining room table, a kitchen with dishwasher and fullsize fridge, the place had
1 1/2 bathrooms, plus the other bath in our room, their was a huge shower, too. they had cd player, vcr, huge tv, it was heaven.

We got to stay in this room the entire trip as well.

So no it wasnt a upgrade at check in, BUT a lesson that if you are not satisfied with the location of your room if you handle it right you might get lucky too!!

In October 02, we took our daugther to WDW for the first time. She was 4 1/2. We booked a garden room at the CR. When we arrived, she came up to the reception desk with me and had a nice conversation with the CM. We checked in about 10:00 am, so the room was not ready, but the CM told us that we could call around 3 to find out our room number. He started telling us where the elevators were, and on what floor to get off for the monorail and shopping. I was somewhat confused by that. I asked what wing we were in. He told me that we were in the tower. I was stunned. It got better. He next told us about the limited concierge service of the 12th floor. They had upgraded us to the 12th floor at no cost. It was a great way to start our trip. I expect we were upgraded because we booked a full package without any discount codes. This was before we learned about this site, and we paid rack rate for a full week. Whatever the reason, it was great and so appreciated. We are off to the CR again in a few months. This time we are paying for the Tower. We are hooked on that view.

We were upgraded once because right before our trip my mother fell and hurt her leg. She was in a wheel chair for the week, we had booked the Wings andwereput in the very last room, making the hike to the monorailquite the adventure....A manager saw this and upgraded us free to the 5th floor...what a wonderful trip.

And a few years back we were upgraded from Tower to the Club level. That was awesome! I think they did it because they knew we would get spoiled, the CRT Club level is now like home away from home

Last August when went to CR we were booked in a standard wing room due to cost. Well when we checked in we had the nicest CM , who said we have upgraded you to a tower room due to pixie dust from mickey Thank god she blurted it out before I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available as I would have felt greedy then. We were esctatic and couldnt believe it. It was truly magical and I cried:bounce: ! However the following year we had a not so nice cm who checked us in and wasnt too friendly - So its the luck of the draw but good luck and have a friendly smile on:teeth:

My mom got a comp upgrade to the tower in Nov 2002, when she was there for our wedding. I have a feeling it was b/c she paid (a not so small fortune!) for the wedding.

What a great trip! We were upgraded, and I think DH found the magic this trip! YYIIPPEEEE!
