Another upgrade question

If you have an annual pass of some sort, say the southern CA pass, and you are given or purchase a park hopper, can you take the value of the park hopper to upgrade the type of annual pass you have?
I know that sounds convoluted, but people are thinking of gifts and I had someone specifically ask about park hoppers, but they'd be given to us after we'll already have passes.

Hi - I don't know about using a park hopper to upgrade a current pass, but if your friends and family are giving you a parkhopper as a gift, you might tell them to instead give you Gift Cards as a gift. These can be purchased from Disneylands website, they charge no shipping, and then you can use them just like a credit card to upgrade.
