I am purchasing tickets from UT tomorrow for a trip in September. I plan on linking them to our MDE. When do they officially "activate"? The first day we use them? I know tickets expire after 30 days, would it be 30 days from the time I buy them or start to use them??

MYW tickets do not activate until you actually use them to enter a park. Once activated, they will expire in 14 days unless you've purchased the no-expire option.

The tickets become activated with first use. They are valid 14 days from initial activation, not 30, unless you have the non expiring option. You can link them to your reservation on the MDE app and that will allow you to book your FP+ options. Linking them to your reservation does not activate the tickets. Just know that if you unlink them at any time, any prior FP booked will go away as well.

On regular MYW multi-day tickets the expiration is 14 days from the day you first use them to enter a park (including that day). Not 30 days.

FYI, I just spoke w/UT and at the moment you use your tix to make MDE reservations, they become non-returnable.

This has no bearing on their expiration, but if you want to, for example, upgrade and add days, you couldn't exchange the tix.

you could probably upgrade and add days once you arrive at WDW, but not through UT.
