another ticket question

I'm trying to decide which ticket would be best option. We usually buy 10 day park hoppers no expire. I'm trying to watch the spending with Christmas here just before our trip, so I'm actually looking into -- 1) that discount site , and 2)--if I buy just a 5 day pass (only doing parks 5 days), and I didn't buy direct through disney, can I still upgrade?
Can the upgrade be to a 10 day PH Non Expire from a regular 5 day pass?

You can upgrade a discount ticket to what ever type of ticket you want. The trick is that you need to use the discounted ticket once before upgrading. Once you use the ticket, the ticket gets full gate value applied to it. Also you have to do the upgrade within 14 days after first use of the ticket.
