another ticket price increase? really?

And as others have pointed out, it is supply and demand. Revenues were up 8% in Q1 of 2014. Everyone is saying that the "low" seasons are more crowded and that is an indication that ticket sales are doing well. When demand is high you can increase the price.

Revenues were up 8%, but not because of increase attendance but rather charging more than the previous year and with MB those that did stay on property spent more. Disneys resort attendance did not increase last hear in spite of adding additional rooms at AOA. Guess the strategy is charge those that do come more to make up for those taking their business elsewhere.

Quote~ Higher prices were the biggest driver of growth. Combined guest spending at Disney's parks in Orlando and Anaheim, Calif., rose 9 percent during the quarter on higher average ticket prices and increased food and merchandise sales. Per-room spending in its hotels — which are concentrated at Disney World — gained 4 percent on higher average nightly rates.

Disney said quarterly attendance rose at Disney World but dipped at Disneyland, which faced a difficult comparison with the huge crowds drawn to the summer 2012 opening of Cars Land, the Disney California Adventure attraction based on the Pixar film franchise. The company said hotel occupancy was comparable to last year's numbers, even though Disney's inventory has grown with the opening of the 2,000-room Art of Animation hotel.

I just got a Mousesavers Newsletter (HotDeals) announcing the price increase -- time stamp 12:57pm

Neither Mousesavers nor UnderCover Tourist have anything on their Facebook pages about the price hike.

I find this very interesting. I can't remember ever not being informed. I am certain Disney must have planned this. Personally, I don't mind paying more as long as I am getting great quality but right now that is not the case. Right now all I see are things constantly being taken away and a system full of serious problems. Some may not agree with my thinking; that's ok.

Here is why they are raising prices, Disney is expecting losses so they need to make more money. When you wipe out revenue gains you have to make up for it somehow

Some analysts had expected MyMagic+ to begin generating returns for Disney during its 2014 fiscal year. But Disney Co. Chief Financial Officer Jay Rasulo said expenses associated with projects in its domestic parks — which, in addition to MyMagic+, include the completion of its Fantasyland expansion — will wipe out revenue gains generated by the projects next year. He pointed to rising costs as Disney installs more of the technological infrastructure for MyMagic+.

The increase would normally occur in August and now they are really bumping up the month that the change takes effect....which is perfect to beat the spring break crowds and summer crowds. Win for Disney, loss for visitors.

Hopefully the increase will yield more $ for Disneys R&D department to hopefully find some great tweaks for FP+. :rolleyes2:stir:

Prices will rise until the guests stop coming. Up to each of us to decide if we will continue to select WDW as a vacation destination.

The entire point of the Magic Your Way ticket structure was to reward guests who stayed on Disney property longer. That isn't going to change.

I fail to see the rewards thus far. (Oops sorry, I read the post wrong; you were talking specifically about MYW tickets). Disregard.

And you are right, as long as guests continue to purchase tickets prices will rise. I was trying to keep an open mind with all that is going on but now, not so much. I can't justify paying more right now. That's just my family; everyone has to do what is best for them.

Wow, this price increase took everyone by surprise. I had no clue until I saw the Orlando Sentinel article on Saturday evening, and that article was not clear on whether just the 1-day tickets were going up, or whether all tickets were going up.

My SIL asked if we should send out an email and I said no, because we didn't know if it was really an issue at that point. If the increase was only on 1-day tickets, it wouldn't affect 99% of MouseSavers readers. Plus, with only 12 hours' notice on a Saturday night, most subscribers wouldn't even see it in time.

Really sucks that Disney was so sneaky about this. In previous years the announcement was made on Friday afternoon, giving us 36 hours' notice. Plus, for the last couple of years, Disney put all the new pricing up on its Disney Parks Blog on Friday afternoon, so everyone could see what's coming. There has still been no announcement on the blog.

Adding to the problem is that ticket price increases have usually been announced at a predictable time of year (early June), so we could warn people in the 2 months prior to go ahead and buy tickets early.

In short, this was not a failing on my SIL's part. We could not have done anything different -- which I think is deliberate on Disney's part.

Even at $106 (with tax), a day at the Magic Kingdom is pretty cheap for a full day's worth of entertainment. My son is a Tottenham Hotspur fan, and we just bought tickets to their summer exhibition at the Chicago Fire. The match won't quite last two hours, but tack on another two for tailgating, etc. Tickets were $125 plus service charges and taxes for mid-field seats. Last year we spent a little more than $100 each to see the touring version of Lion King in Detroit---again, about a three hour show, counting the intermission.

I think they're going to let Universal be the first park to break the $100 base ticket per day mark. At least at Universal there will be a run on the two-park tickets, which guests will need if they want to ride the Hogwarts Express.

...and I won't be surprised to see them hit it just before Diagon Alley opens.

I'm not sure. :) I think she retired at the beginning of the year, but her sister in law has been helping for quite a while, so should be familiar with how things work. Not sure why there was no notification sent out.

I got their email this morning.

Yes, I got one at 12:48PM today. Just used the discount link to buy my passes for a summer trip. Still had the same discount as last week.

Sparkly, this is an honest question. When was the last time you visited Disney World?

Just got back on Tuesday! And we had a great time. Please don't try and use me to prove a point, it isn't working. Face it, not everyone hates FP+. Why can't people understand that?

03/05/1986 4-for-1
05/15/1992 4-for-1
07/09/1998 3-for-1

One share in 1973 would be 48 shares today. At Friday's closing price of $80, those 48 shares would be worth $3,840.

what I have is worth alot more than that.:woohoo:
