Another thread about the "War on Christmas"

I'm sorry but I find it pretty damned funny they are using Buddy Christ, considering the movie he is from :lmao:

I know I've seen that image of "Buddy Christ" on T shirts (other than the ones listed here) and in a movie. Was that "Dogma" maybe?

Yep Dogma. Which got a lot of religious types up in arms - not just the Catholic community.

I'm a religious type, so I'd probably better not admit I watched it, huh? :teeth:

Mike,

For the record, you did not mention any of these other phrases...you metioned 'reason for the season' and the ones I have seen with that on it are not anything like te link you mention.

I agree that those shirts are 'in your face' and ignorant.

No it's ok. It just shows you have a sense of humor. My MIL is one who doesn't. Then again, she couldn't tell the difference between Buddy Christ and Jesus of the Sacred Heart.

Why don't you take a minute, sit down, and try and get over yourself. :rolleyes1

You always have the option of ignoring my posts. I certainly do ingore yours unless they are one of the many end around at attacks on me.

And for those who refuse to just do their own searches here one great example.

http://fcbcapparel.com/Christmas.php

But of course you are somebody who probaly thinks calling people commies is fine.

BTW: I really doubt Keven Smith gave them the rights to use his Buddy Christ trademark.

Maybe I should have taken pictures. Who knew I would be accused of making this all up or just stirring the pot. :rolleyes They were everywhere, but many more at Disney than at the other parks.

And before somebody takes this angle, yes, a search brings up quite a few rude shirts from the anti-Christmas side. I think those are just as bad.

Those t-shirts seem quite different than on that just says Reason for the Season. The saying Reason for the Season has been around forever (or at least since I was young). Unless it said something sarcastic like the t-shirts that you linked to it seems that people are being hyper-sensitive. It would not occur to me to think it rude if someone wore a Seasons Greetings t-shirt.

Oopsie, I have it on DVD. I guess I don't qualify as a "conservative christian".

*CLARIFICATION*
I did not in any way say that all Conservative Christians or all religious folks should or do have an issue with the movie dogma. I said "a lot of religious types" which should in no way indicate I mean all, or even a majority.

Just figured I should put that out there :thumbsup2

:goodvibes I know what you meant, I was just kidding. I am conservative and I am christian, but many times I don't have the same opinions as "conservative christians".

We must be separated at birth! ;)

No, I know. I just know how things get blown out of proportion here. Someone is likely to read my post, and then yours, and go oh! she meant all Christians ;)

I've clarified more than once on this thread that they were much more than "reason for the season". I only used that phrase because it's the most common and one shirt I saw actually had that phrase with a rude and sacrcastic one added bwlow it. IIRC it was something like "for those that can undersand reason" and it was using the Rankin/Bass characters.

ETA for clarity: The shirts you linked to are kind of funny in a wierd sort of way. Say you saw a whole lot of these exact shirts at WDW recently? And that's what rained on your parade? I'm not calling you a liar; it's just that I can't believe they're that popular.

I'm not surprised you would find something like that funny, and yes, I saw a group wearing the "commie" version.

The others I saw were different but along the same lines as being (IMO of course) rude. You probably would have laughed yourself right off your holier than thou high horse.

I guess it is b/c people have never seen them and some did google and didn't come up with anything.

I didn't google--so I apologize for that and can now see your POV that was originally intended.

Living here in the Bible Belt, I am surprised I have never seen these shirts before (like the ones OP describes in a recent post) on people or in Christian bookstores. :confused3 Maybe I hang around at the wrong places. :teeth:

Thanks. I wanted to let people find them for themselves because of exactly what happened, people just saying they were funny. But of course that's spun into there must be no examples and I'm just looking to make trouble.

But yeah, if people find stuff like that funny, I guess in their opinion I didn't see anything they would consider rude. Par for the course when it's the "right" side doing the "joking".

FTR I never said you were stirring trouble and I suck at googling. Just based on what I have seen in my neck of the woods--hadn't seen those shirts and couldn't figure out what could be a "bad" version of "The reason for the season".

But I do have a funny--hubby's Knights of Columbus Group was publicizing that they were selling the yard placards (like the election signs you stick in teh ground) with that motto on it and we should display it all of September.

I was quite tempted to point out that until the Eve of Dec 24th....we only "celebrate" Advent (Catholic faith and KofC is a Catholic men's fraternity). I don't think they would have gotten it if I mentioned it. But I had a good giggle.
