I now have 3 screws and washer in a plastic container
instead of my leg. He left 3 more screws in place because
they didn't appear to be causing any problems. He also
removed the wire that was wrapped around my tibia. I think that's where the washer came into play. No weight bearing for a week and a half. I can unwrap and shower in 3 days.
I have to keep it elevated above my heart and ice it
several times a day to relieve swelling and pain. My pain
is bearable and I have plenty of meds to keep it that way.
The screws are BIG and have rounded heads. I was
surprised. They have sharp tips and fine threads like a
machine screw with a wood screw tip.
I didn't get to talk to my surgeon afterwards so only know
that he did treat the mass too. My dh only knows that it
was opened and cleaned and the contents sent to pathology.
I'll have to find out what's up on that when I go back to
the doctor just before Thanksgiving Day. I have to make
that appt. Monday.
It's great to have this over and hopefully I'll be walking limp free in time for Christmas.
