Another Substitution Question

We will be at WDW on the regular DDP in June. This is a gift from the in laws. They insist on getting the dining plan to make sure we can all eat together several nights. (They are very generous people). This is our first trip without the deluxe plan. I just felt that it was too much food. I’m just now realizing that appetizers are not included on the regular plan. I LOVE appetizers (I mean love) and I’m not a big eater at all. My question is this... I know apps can’t be ordered in place of desserts, but can you order an appetizer as your entree’?

*also posted on DDP forum, but I wasn’t sure if anyone looked at that one

I’m surprised. Seems like they’d really be coming out ahead with this substitution
You will have to ask at every restaurant, but don't count on it. Some of the Disney owned restaurants might allow it, but the third party restaurants will not because they are reimbursed by Disney according to the rules of the plan so entrees have to come from the entree section of their menu. Rather than coming out ahead, they would be losing money.

It sounds like the dining plan isn't really for you in that case.
Someone else is paying for it.

My father did this for us. He wanted an all inclusive trip. He paid for the entire trip, and we had money for tips and gifts. Now we did it with insurance money after he died. So, I could have done something different, he wouldn't have known. But I would have.

OP, ask at each restaurant. You might be lucky and not have a problem doing it.

As a fellow app-in-lieu-of-entree eater, this is one of the reasons I typically opt out of DDP.

I second the idea of paying for the app OOP. Use the extra credits for an extra TS or a sig somewhere.

The DDP is a gift from my generous in laws (actually the entire trip). We actually talked them out of getting the DxDP ( for us, they have it)This will be our third trip and the first one not on the deluxe plan. Just trying to plan accordingly.

Maybe just switch back? Especially since they have it anyway? Doesn’t sound like they care...

1) No.
2) Appetizers are MORE EXPENSIVE than desserts.
. . . desserts can be made-up ahead of time
. . . desserts can be served with little labor o kitchen cost (just pull from shelf or frig and serve to table)
. . . desserts can be made at WDW or bought from a vendor in MASS QUANTITIES (can made or bought in volume, thus saving labor and per-item costs)
. . . desserts can be stored or kept frozen for the next night or next meal
. . . desserts do not require ordering-storing-preparing components,. and have little (if any) waste

'Nough Said.

It's very clear that Disney is allowing the chefs to actually be creative and spend money on appetizers as they continue to standardize the entrees in cost cutting moves. So no, they wouldn't come out ahead. It's easier and cheaper to turn out 10000 cookie cutter mains!

There's a reason you like the appetizers better.

She said that she wanted to switch her entrée for an app.

She knew that they wouldn't swith the dessert.

I agree to pay out of pocket for the apps and then you can use the credits towards the 2 credit places. If you haven’t used the plan before, it doesn’t matter who is on the plan, you can pay with credits for anyone at your table.
