Oh No! We were one of those ppl caught in Frances last year (infact it came right in the middle of our trip) So I am a lil nevrous of the storm that is brewing up behind Irene that could strike late next week-early the following week. We leave for Orlando on the 22nd, So I am not so happy about the possibility of A.) not getting to Disney :guilty: Or B.) Having my trip interrupted yet again. Anyone else having some hurricane fears?

Yes - we leave the same day as you and I am not a happy camper about any storms. I didn't see any mention of anything behind Irene though - where did you see this??

We were stuck in the Frances mess last year too and had to extend our vacation by 3 days (our original flight was cancelled). Not all tropical storms turn into hurricanes and not all hurricanes directly hit Orlando, so no I am not worried. We leave on the 24th of August. Don't work yourself up too much over something you have no control over. :sunny:

You are so right about not working yourself up about something you have no control about - - but I can't help it!! I just noticed where you are from - we are practically neighbors!

Irene is going nowhere near Florida. However if you are go to OBX or Va Beach then you need to pay close attention to the weather.

It's not Irene, ther eis another storm that could possible become a tropical storm by next week that is brewing in the Atlantic behind Irene

There's a couple of decent looking waves just coming off the coast of Africa right now....one is just called 96L right now. The next one is being watched closely. But these are soooooooo far out right now, there's nothing to worry about yet. Early models are taking 96L due north.....let's hope it goes that way. But it is starting to get riled up again in the Atlantic....

Today is the one year anniversary of Hurricane Charley....not a fun experience for those of us who were here.

Glad I'm not the only worried one! I'm not the least bit concerned about Irene in the Orlando area (guess it is possible, but doesn't look that way). BUT, the ironic thing is that I may be leaving my home to weather a hurricane while I'm relaxing in Florida! We leave in the morning and I have asked neighbors to give us a call if something like a tree falls on our house :earseek:
I became especially worried yesterday when emergency services called to update their files (info. on my disabled son) just in case. When they get worried, I get worried.
I will enjoy peaceful weather in Florida and pray for calm in Virginia.

It seems like most of the storms are heading further north than Florida or just heading straight north.

I'm going to WDW on Aug 17 and while I am hoping to miss any bad weather, I'm trying not to let it interfer with these plans. We'll be there from Aug 17 to 31.

We are leaving on the 20th and I was a bit worried but who knows which way the wind will blow this one?

I won't worry too much because you know what..... Even if it rains we will don our ponchos and head over to the parks!!!! :umbrella: :umbrella:

I thought we were worrying about Irene and now there's already another one! We're going August 18 - 26. I'm really worried because I don't get to go very often (our last family trip was August 2001), and I really want to enjoy our trip without any problems!

I am a worrier about tropical storms & hurricanes too. Haven't been on a vacation in 5 years and really need one. I watch the weather channel as if it gives me any control over the storms. Neurotic to the bone!! :guilty:

I would not worry...

There are 5 tropical waves in the Atlantic basin right now. There is only 1 of these 5 that they are watching, which shows signs of possible organization. Right now this particular wave is 42w and south of 16 n....which is in the middle of the ocean and very south. All waves move 4-6 longitude degrees per day. One longitude degree equals 43 miles...

In other words...don't worry.

I know, I "shouldn't" have to worry but I still do. I just don't want a frances repeat! and besides those poor locals don't need another season like last year.

I'll be leaving Philly on the 22nd also. :)

Hopefully, the storm will die out before it gets to serious or stay out to sea away from land (that's my hope anyway). I'm not gonna worry too much, since there's nothing I can do about it.
Besides a wet, windy day at WDW is better than a work day at home!

I think my biggest fear is not being able to get out of Philly :guilty:

Which airline/flight are you leaving on, PM me if you don't want to answer here

We're leaving from Philly on the 23rd-I am not even going to follow the weather because I will drive myself crazy. Last year, our trip fell right in between the two August hurricanes that went through Orlando and I made a mental note that I wouldnt plan another trip for this time. However, we enjoy going at the end of Aug so I did plan another Aug. trip and I guess we will hope for the best!
