another Star Wars movie released in between Episode VII and VIII

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (aka Episode VII) will be released on December 18th, 2015. Unfortunately, Star Wars fans will have to wait another two years until the sequel, Episode VIII, is released in 2017. The good news for Star Wars fans is that there will be another Star Wars movie released in between Episode VII and VIII in 2016. http://wdwnt.com/blog/2014/11/rumor-possible-storyline-for-star-wars-spin-off-movie-between-episodes-7-8/
Disney has said that there will be a lot of spin off stories coming from the Star Wars brand. They have already the Star Wars rebels tv show on the Disney channel.

That's been known pretty much since Disney purchased Lucasfilm. Disney made it very clear that they didn't just have another 3-film trilogy in the works. In fact, their initial plan (desire) was to have some sort of Star Wars film appear in theaters every single year.

There have been a lot of rumors about the focus of stand-alone films. Among the most popular rumors are Yoda, Boba Fett and a young Han Solo. Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) is currently attached as director of the first spinoff.

I read a book that took place after Episode 3. The plot was that there were a few Jedi here and there that survived order 66 and the plot followed two of Jedi to see what they did. It also had information about Vader and the Emperor beginning to develop the Empire.

Something like that could be an interesting plot. They don't have to include the main characters, as long as their are Jedi and lightsabers and Sith or Empire or some other evil there will be butts in the seats.

It's been reported for awhile that there were going to be 3 spinoffs, for a total of 6 movies released starting with Episode VII.

I've seen rumors of all different types. I think that they are still trowing ideas around. I have heard of a Han Solo stand alone, a Boba Fett, and even an Obi-Won "trilogy." I'd be surprised if they only do six movies. Disney paid a lot of money for the franchise. They are going to walk that tight line between getting the most bang for their buck and killing the goose that laid the golden egg.
