The last chemo treatment did not go as well as I had hoped it would , two days after she was discharged from the hospital , we were back in our local hospital to find out that she was severely dehydrated and her electrolytes messed up again. She was admitted and a couple of days later we found out that ther chemo port is no longer working , they did a port study and determined that the catheter in the vein is embedded and needs to either be fixed or replaced , but since all our doctors are in Philly , Sonya decided that she wants it done in Philly and not locally , so we were supposed to be transferred this past monday , well that didn't quite happen that way , because her platelets are low her oncologist decided to have the procedure done later on in the week so after another week in the hospital we came home. Now we are waiting for them to call us and let us know when they are scheduling this for , we may be in the hospital for a couple of days.
What really stinks is that she is 5 treatments away from finishing but we were told by the local doctor that the oncologist mentioned to him that he may stop giving Sonya the cisplatin all together ( the evil chemo that I call it ) because that always makes her electrolytes go too low. I have to talk to him about that because I do not want to compromise the outcome by cutting the one out....I don't know what his plans are and I am sure that he will talk to us before that , we'll see what happens. So for right now we are home sitting tight .....and we are supposed to get another chemo next week ??? I don't think so !
This kid has been through hell and back with this.....

Oh Kanga.. hugs to Sonya and hugs to you. You know I hear you on worrying about eliminating the cisplatin as you do not want change the protocol at all if that is what works... They stopped Tom's chemo for a week as he was getting so ill and we worried, what if that makes the difference..

Anyhow, I am here and I hear you. Tom is not feeling well and he finished last Wednesday... the doctor had prepared him that he would have at least two weeks of not feeling well after the treatment was over. It is just so worrisome....so hugs to you and to Sonya... please let her continue to build up so that she can get that darn port fixed... you get so close, you want the treatment to be over, but you have to keep jumping the hurdles....Hugs, hugs, hugs!!!!

So sorry to hear that. I hope and pray all goes well for you. Seeing your child go through such an ordeal is heart breaking. Hope things look up for you all very soon. :grouphug:

That is just it Marsha , we get closer to the end and it just seems that we are agonizing to get there , but we will win.
I am not so convinced about the cisplatin though.....the doctor has not said anything to us yet if he plans to change something , we will see.
Sorry to hear that Tom is feeling so crummy too but hopefully this is the last time he feels that way , or at least for a very long time. I hate cancer , did you know that ?

I did know that Kanga.... and did you know I hate it too????? What an evil disease....which attacks from babies to old people and everyone in between... pure evil.

Hugs to you and Sonya, hang in there, you are almost there.

I keep routing for you and Sonya. There's no justice that's for sure.

She had the port replaced yesterday , initially they found no problem with the other one but then they found that the line was too long and in one particular place she could be getting kinks , so rather than leave that one in and continue to have problems down the road and have to replace it anyway , the doctor went ahead and replaced it.
She is again very sore but at least now we can proceed to finish what we started.
We should go for another treatment next thursday , hopefully by then she will not be so tender.

Sending that positive energy your way so that she can just finish this.....the treatment is so close to end.. Hugs to you both....
