not wanting to spend more than $150 a nite...any suggestions...not looking for anything fancy, just a pool and direct access to a nice beach the kids would like

I just PM'd you---the cost of the del may be prohibitive but the beach can't be beat and you doi not have to stay at the del to enjoy the beach!

Here is info on the hilton mission bay--i have stayed there and it is very nice--very close to sea world

The Del is fabulous and the beach is great but if you are not wanting to spend so much dough there are some other options. The Glorietta Bay is across the street from the Del and not so pricey.
The Hilton on Mission Bay is great too and there is a lot to do nearby. Also there is the Catamaran and other bayside hotels - such as the Bahia.
Going a bit north you have some options too that are beachside not bayside. There are some smaller properties all along the coast such as some Best Westerns and the likes.
I live in SD so I dont stay at hotels here much but let me think about it some more and see what I come up with.
