Another review from a DISer who just returned from the NCL Getaway...

Not exactly. If you purchase a beverage package before you sail, it must be purchased by everyone in the cabin. If you wait and purchase on board, it does not have be purchased for everyone in the cabin.

totally not true. i always purchase my beverage package on royal before we cruise; DH does not get a package. the requirements for both to get the package were changed a couple of years ago; now everyone can get a different package or, like me and DH, one person get one and one not. it doesn't matter whether you buy it onboard or pre-purchase it before you sail.

OP, thanks for the review. my NCL gem cruise was, quite frankly, pretty bad, but i'm intrigued by the big new ships and considering trying one out.

Do note that on NCL there is an $8 charge for room service. Also, you are no longer allowed to bring food back to your stateroom.

Actually the room service charge is $7.95 only on certain menu items, there is STILL a basic room service menu that is free. You can bring back to your room any food items from any dining venue.

Where in my post did I mention anything about Royal? This thread is about NCL and that's who I was referring to. So yeah, it's "totally true" on NCL.

I am happy to read such a positive review. We are going on the Getaway in February, with a great promo.

Sorry, posts 2-4 discussed the RCCL package (because the OP had mentioned it), and then you quoted someone who posted "NCL is the line that requires everyone in the room to buy the package. RCCL does not." and you responded with "not exactly", so i thought you were referring to the RCCL packages. My bad. Based on the earlier discussion of the rccl packages, it seemed like that's what you were referring to, especially because there's still a lot of confusion about them because they changed so recently.

Good info to have about NCL, though, in case we do try the breakaway or getaway, since i usually get a package and DH does not. :)

Pretty sure only "continental breakfast" is exempt from the $8 charge. I'd read any current links you have stating otherwise.
