How much should I budget for food per person? Say for one counter service and one sit down meal a day. No character meals and bringing in our own drinks.

Thanks so much for helping me plan this great trip!

I budget 35-40$ per person per day. That includes drinks snacks sit downs and all. If I use less that's great :) but I havnt gone over lol

The $40 budget sounds good. We are budgeting $200 per day for a family of 6, with a baby and a kid who doesn't eat.

When it is just DD and I we plan for $100 a day... usually comes in a little under that, but that is better than being short!

I budget $40.00, including one nice dinner, one counter service lunch, and snacks. We have a separate holy budget for holy water.

I was glad to read all the replies as I was wondering the same thing myself. I think after reading those, I will budget $50 per person to include meals with drinks and snacks - I have to have my dole whip :lovestruc

We're on the LOW side of food budgeting, as we have, in the past, budgeted $100 per day for everyone's food and souvenirs. But there are only 3 of us, and none of us drink soda, we're vegetarian, we share meals, and DS & DH can't eat most of the "snack" food type items b/c of ingredient issues. I'm the snackiest one, as I like my iced lattes (but we do all buy the expensive fruit!).

We also only rarely do a character meal; and only one per visit when we do one.

$50/day just doesn't seem like enough after looking the prices!

We're budgeting $100/day for two adults and a 5 year old boy (who has a hearty appetite!) If we do counter service meals for lunch (without soda) those are roughly $8-10 per person, so there's $30. Dinners look like about $15-$20 per person, so there's another $50-60. We plan on ordering breakfast and snack items from Vons (and a case of water) to save on costs. But, if you throw in a few snacks anyway that's probably another $10/day, so 30+50+10 = $90! And that's not including a character meal and whatever we pay to Vons ($50?) for breakfast/snack items. It's sad that our food will cost more than our plane tickets and more than our hotel. I really hope I'm overestimating!

SaraK, I think they were recommending $50/day per person, not total. So, if there's three of you, the recommendation would be $150/day.

However, it really just depends on how much you want to/can afford. We just got back from a week stay, and I started a post about how we fed a family of four on about $50/day in the park - but that included cost saving measures like eating a full free breakfast, bringing our own snacks in, etc.

Yes, you're right, I see that now! I was wondering what their magic trick was to eat on $50 total!! :)

I second using allears.net as a guide. Whenever my sister and I go we always eat entirely inside the park. The lowest we have ever gotten away with was $35 in a day for both of us (we like kids meals and we don't eat alot). I can't really comment on a daily budget for a child, some eat as much as I do, and some barely eat, so you never really can tell. If you are going to be realistically conservative, and you plan on one sit down meal in the park a day, I think $50 a person (adult) is conceivable. But also bare in mind that food can also be the highlight of a trip for some people, in which case they may budget $100 a person (adult). Browse allears.net's database, it's rather fun!

We just got back, 2 adults and 3 small kids (2, 5, and 7 yrs old) and we averaged around $240- per day for all of us. We did 1 to 2 sit downs per day (this includes 2 character meals and 1 meal at Blue Bayou). We ate only in the parks or at DTD.

It depends on where you plan to do sit down meals. We just did Jazz Kitchen and that was roughly $50 pp for dinner plus a drink....... I would look at the allears.net menu and see what you want, see the prices, etc., and go from there. Some places are quite expensive.
