Do any of you miss having a chance to stay at some of the other resorts like the Poly? Grand Floridian?

I'm actually thinking of staying there on weekends to save points and be close to the MK. I have an AP so the discount is worth it and then I can stay more days with the lower points at the BWV.

Maybe I am misunderstanding...I thought if you used points, you could only stay at dvc resorts? is that not true?

Woodcourt how do you book a stay at the GF?

A dvc member can do that also.......

We stay many places not using our dvc.

Well, you actually can use your points to stay at the 'regular' resorts (not the values though) but it's certainly not good use of the points!!! I love to stay at other resorts and pay cash just like normal, non-DVC types!! Hate using those week-end points twice in one trip..so I split 'em up..one week-end at DVC, one at a regular resort, using cash.

They are different levels to using your points. Its best to use them at the DVC resorts. For example, you can book a studio at a DVC resort for 12 points a night. That same night at Grand Floridian might be 40 points. I don't have my book, so these numbers are just an example.

I have read where some have used there points at the Grand Floridian for a wedding they were attending.

DVC has the fives resorts in WDW and VB and HH. There is also four other options on how you can use the points. Disney Collection, World Passport Collection, Conciere Collection and Adventurer Collection.

I almost always stay at other resorts. In addition to SSR, I also have All Star Movies, POFQ and the Grand Floridean to mark off my list.

Staying at regular Disney resorts is possible using points, but definitely not the best use of points. So this was one of our hesitations to joining DVC. We loved POR and just couldn't imagine how sad it would be not to stay there. Well, after our first trip "home", we didn't miss POR any more! Give us our DVC resorts! This past December, after 3 years as members, I took a chance to stay at POR again, because I wanted to save those high weekend points. It was OK, but I couldn't believe-"I used to love this?" I mean, where was my balcony? My feeling of relaxation? Fortunately I got back to DVC is 2 days.

We still stay at other resorts on AP codes or points at times (but only when the cost of our points was better than the AP code).

There's also the psychological (sp?) side.

Both my hubby and I want to stay at AKL Concierge. No way in heck will he pay the cash equivilant for that. The points however will not hurt anywhere near as much :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: (his words)

I understand that it's not the best use of points - but it may be the only way to get to stay at some of these places :rolleyes1:

Given the point cost is going to go up - my plan is to stay at the hotels we want first - then DCL- (cash pay prob) - then the resorts :thumbsup2

Of course after our May trip our next available vacation year is 2009 which is one reason why hubby wants me to wait before buying into DVC <sigh>

Stayed at the Poly last May with the Ap discount checked in on DW birthday, told them so on checkin. Ask for a good view gave us a rm in the back with a great view of the parking lot and monorail. Will never stasy there again, I'll stay with our DVC resorts.

this thread answers exactly what i have been wondering. now i have a new question: SSR is the only resort one can buy into at this point in time, correct? if so, can a member stay at any of the other DVC resorts for the same amount of points? SSR doesn't appeal to me and i'd much rather stay at VWL.

Not at all. In a couple of weeks we are staying 3 nights at the Contemporary (want to try it out before the DVC opens) and for New Year's 2005, we stayed at the Grand Floridian.

We didn't buy points for all of our Disney trips, just the majority of them.

(BTW: My countdown timer is only for DVC trips since we are only allowed two timers, that's why the CR trip isn't on there)

You can buy into any resort. Just buy a resale from a realtor (Look at the sponsor of this site). Or call Disney and tell them you will only buy DVC if you can purchase (fill in the blank). You may have to go on a wait list but DVC will sell it to you if it's available.

The VWL, BCV and BWV (preferred view) are a few more points per night generally than SSR. OKW is less. If VWL is important to you and you can plan from 11 to 8 months in advance, buy there.

Nah.

Every one in a while we wil stay at a non-dvc resort.

We always loved Dixe Landings (POR)

Yes I kind of do miss the chance to stay there. I am using points to stay in the tower at CR this year and it's costing me 200 points. (5 nights) I could stay a week in a one bedroom villa for that at home and have some points left over.

I still have 4 more resorts to mark off my list after this one, AKL, Poly, GF and FW Cabins. Hopefully I can rent out my points so I can use the cash to be able to stay there.
