Another question regarding this years points...

If I buy direct I am told I will receive all of 2009 points (I am looking at an August or September UY).... The next trip I am planning is either October 2010 or summer 2011..... When do the 2009 points need to be used by? I can bank them for use from 8/2010 - 7/2011....? I think?

Definitely not going in the beginning/middle of next year.

If you have an Aug or Sept UY, you can bank your points into 2010 and they would be good until July 31st, 2011 (Aug UY) or August 31st, 2011 (Sep UY).

Dues are based on the calendar year. If you purchase now, your dues will be prorated from the beginning of the year based on your purchase date. At this time, if you were to buy a contract with a Sept., Oct. or Dec. Use Year you could even get 2008 points (for resorts other than BLT) and bank them for future use. If you were to get 2008 points your dues would still be prorated from the date of purchase - if you bought on August 31 you'd pay dues only on 4 months, 2/3 of the full year fees.

We do quite a bit of our traveling in Sept-Dec....therefore we chose an August UY. Our points must be banked by March 31st, so any spring or summer trips, using points from the same year, must be a sure thing.

You'd need to call pretty quickly to get a September Use Year since the 2008 Use Year ends on Monday and they cannot give those points to you after that date. I would call and ask immediately if you are interested. You'd need to complete the paperwork and make your deposit by Monday (you could not bank the points on Tuesday since they will expire on Monday). After Monday, you could still get a Sep Use Year, but only 2009 points would be available.

If you will use those points for August trips there is a possibility of problems if you'd need to cancel a trip (June or August would be safer for trips in August), but September is a great Use Year for trips in Sep/Oct/Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb.

From what I have read on the boards, the only AKV contracts that people seemed to be getting 2008 points, was Oct or Dec. If you think Sept would work for you, then I would ask.

But, if you know that you might be traveling in August, even if it is for the next few years, I don't know that I would get a Sept UY. Remember, UY will be there always, but the 2008 points, even banked, would have to be used by August 31st, 2010. Are you planning to travel during that time period? If not, than the extra points may not really be a benefit (other than that you could try to rent them).

And, if you borrow points for an August trip from a Sept UY, and then decide to cancel, you would not have any time to use up the borrowed points as they would expire August 31st.
