Another Question on Reallocating Points

So because I banked all of my AKV 2020 points into next year, it looks like I'm going to end up with lots of extras. At the same time, I'm going to be short some HHI points for some of those trips. We have a trip booked at HHI for next June in a 2-BR. Right now, there is still availability for one of the nights. I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to reallocate the points to use the extra AKV points for the HHI reservation. If so, do I need to reallocate the total points for the night or can I reallocate any amount up to the total? For example, the night is 33 points. Do I have to reallocate all 33 or can I reallocate say 25?

The system won’t like you choose a mix of different points from the current UY.

It is all based on the way you prioritize the contract so if you choose the AKV first and HH second, since there is still availability, the system will use banked points from both first and then use current UY points in the order the contracts are checked. Now, since most of the trip was booked it will only pull for what can be booked with the AKV points.

So, that night is 33 points, it will use those.

If you were to modify that reservation online, using the same dates and villa type, and then add your AKV contract to be used, the system will use ALL banked points before current points. So, if you have 33 AKV banked points and only want to use 25, it won’t work.

A work around would be to find an 8-point AKV reservation and book it. You now have only 25 banked AKV points. Then modify the HHI reservation. It will use the 25 remaining AKV banked points first. You can then cancel the 8-point AKV reservation. Easier said than done given that a 8-point AKV reservation is a unicorn on the plains of the Serengeti. But you get the gist. If you have 100 banked AKV points and only want to use 25 for the HHI reservation, you would make a reservation that uses 75 banked AKV points first and then modify the HHI reservation to use the remaining 25 banked AKV points. The idea is to temporarily put a “hold” on a select number of banked points in order to keep them available for another reservation later.

Ok, let me make sure I understand.
I have 88 2021 AKV points remaining in my account right now.
I have 25 2021 HHI points remaining. I did have 190 (90 banked from 2020) but I booked a 2-BR for 165, leaving 25.
If I call to have them reallocate and ask them to use AKV, they will use 33 2021 points and put 25 2021 HHI back into the UY, correct?

I have no banked points available. I actually used them to book WDW reservations. The points I would be using are 2021 points.

Sorry. I misunderstood what you were attempting to do.

Given this scenario, if you were to prioritize the contracts as AKV first and then HHI second then the points would be taken this way:
  1. 90 banked HHI points from 2020
  2. 75 AKV points
  3. 13 AKV points left in 2021
  4. 75 HHI points left in 2021
Since your HHI trip is already booked, you are stuck with the HHI points locked in as the #1 priority. Your only way around it would be to cancel and rebook the reservation using the AKV contract as the #1 priority. But then you run the risk of losing your other nights, unless that open night is either the first or last night of your trip.

Okay, I'm very surprised at this. I know in the past I've been able to call at less than 7 months out and just reallocate the points without cancelling and rebooking. I just couldn't remember if I had to use all points for one night or if I could use just a portion.

I am not sure of your HHI reservation.

If it is one made with HHI points during the 11-month booking window, then you cannot modify it at all by taking out HHI points and putting in AKV points unless that entire HHI reservation time that you already have is separately still available to be reserved by anyone at 7-months out. In essence, if only one of the HHI dates is still being shown as separately available, you cannot do any modification that would take out HHI points and put in AKV points. Your only option is to cancel the HHI reservation and attempt to do the same reservation again using both HHI and AKV points or just AKV points, an exercise likely to fail because, if cancelled, that HHI time that you have could be allocated to someone's waitlist or someone else could grab it during the short time between your cancellation and your trying to do a new reservation. If you were allowed in the past to modify an 11-month reservation with points from another resort at 7-months out, then either the reservation you had was separately available at 7 months out or something happened that should not have happened.

If the HHI reservation was made in the 11-month window, and the day you are seeing open is either the first night or last night of your HHI reservation, then you could reserve that particular night using AKV points, then modify the HHI reservation by dropping the applicable night and then contact MS and have it link the two reservations so you not have to change rooms.

If you made the HHI reservation during the 7-month window, then you can modify that entire reservation to change to just AKV points or a mix of HHI and AKV points. If you do that modification on line and list the applicable contracts to use for it, the system will use any banked points first from all the contracts if there are any banked points, and then use all regular use year points left in the first contract listed, then if needed do the same with the second contract listed, etc. If you want to do any reallocation other than what would result from that sequence, you would need to call MS to do the modification.

The system will allow you to modify a home resort booking with other points if there is availability during it..without it all being there.. if those points you want to use are banked. The banked points can not exceed what is still there, but it works.

I have done that recently with banked BLT points. Booked an SSR studio in December at 9 months. Modified in August when I got banked points. Since nights were available it worked.

However, it will not allow you to replace a day during the trip with non home resort that are considered current UY.

If nothing is available then nothing works.

I made the reservation at 11 months out using all HHI points. There is only one night of the reservation still available, and that is not the last night but the next to last night. So I guess there's no way to do it. FWIW, I have been told that points can be reallocated as long as there is availability at less than 7 months out, and I have been able to do it before on single nights; just can't remember if it was for the total number of points for the night or an amount up to that number. Maybe I just got lucky those couple of times.
