I'm terribly ignorant of the whole subject and reading giggler's thread has just made me more confused

When we go in October, we will have 2 tri-bands (one Vodafone, one 02) which we want to use to keep in touch with our teenage girls. Cost is not the greatest issue, but obviously any tips on how to keep them to a minimum would be useful. I'm sure I've heard somewhere that texting is cheaper than calling - is that right?

What do I need to do to activate International Roaming? Can I do it now, or do I need to wait until just before we go?

Not sure about the texting but to activate the international traveeler service you call the service provider. With O2 I called them the month before and she turned it on for the time we away. But before you go check as they have a habit of needing to be told at least twice before actually doing anything.

Deb - don't know the cost for O2 or Voda but on our talk plan on Orange, texting from the US to UK costs 10p - 32p

Remember to change your phone numbers from 07 .... to +44 7.....

The plus must be used on mobiles and depending on model you need to hold down the 0 key (Motorola) or the * key (Nokia)
