another question about digital cameras

Hi all can any one tell me how many photos you might expect to get from a DC useing AA disposable batteries.Im used to rechargable Lo ion batteries but need a new camera for our next trip.Ive heard that the life of these disposable bats is very short but ive come across a nice camera at a good price that uses AA bats and would appreciate any comments / advice

They will have improved I suspect since we had one of the first on the market years ago, It was useless. With cost of good cameras now so low I would not contemplate one without rechargable Lo ion batteries. The small battery thats in my Canon Digi SLR lasts about 1000 shots. Taking spare with me and I won't need to charge up all 25 nights.

I would get a small US voltage compatible charger and a couple of sets of rechargeble batteries. You can then leave a set on-charge in your room and have a set in your camera.
Rechargeables tend to last quite a bit longer than normal batteries.
Go for rechargeables of at least 2500mAh capacity

You should conside NiMH rechargeables for the better performance. I am a Wedding & Portrait photographer and am not totally used to using AA's except in my Fuji s602 (normally using all Canon pro-level kit).
The Fuji is about 4 or 5 years old and takes 4 x AA's. I have had no trouble using Duracells, getting about 3 days use per set (probably equating to up to about 750 shots at best guess).

However, there are a number of factors that will affect the life of a battery - how much zooming you do, how much flash you use, how long it is left switched on, how much reviewing and "in camera" editing you do, whether you upload to a PC/Laptop on battery power etc etc etc.

With these things in mind, you will only get a best-guess answer.

You should also check out www.7dayshop.com for extremely cheap and ultra reliable rechargeable NiMH AA's at 2500mAh and higher (Duracells are around 1800mAh) for about £1 per battery. Believe me, I have totally road tested these, mainly in my Flashguns, they are absolutely superb and can be used hundreds of times.
