Another question about dates in January...experts, I need your advice!

So I've posted before about how we usually go to WDW in late Jan/early Feb, but that this year we have to go in early/mid Jan. I was told MLK weekend is buuuusy, and that Marathon weekend isn't as bad but still busy. So, what about the first couple weeks on Jan? Say, the 2nd through the 10th or so?? Is right after New Years bad too?

We are planning the 1-6 and from everything I can find looks like low to moderate crowds. No holidays, no special events, most people gone home already from the insanely busy week between Christmas and New Year's.

We've gone twice in January - and loved it both times. In 2006 we went from the 1st until the 8th. Crowds were fairly big on the 1st and 2nd but thinned out as the week went on. In 2008, we went from the 6th thru the 12th and that was a dream since most if not all schools were back in session by then - that's really the key. We did not notice a difference in the lines at the parks even with Marathon weekend, although the resorts were a bit more crowded. I think the marathon crowd doesn't really hit the parks until after the races are all over. So, if I were planning to go this January, I'd pick the week of Jan 4-10.

We go the last week of January and first week of Febuary. Make sure you are not there for Presidents day... Lines are small and weather is hit or miss but more times than not its warm. Pack for cold just incase. One year week one was winter coats and gloves then the next week of our vacation was shorts and warm weather. The early mornings are chilly then it warms up. Late evening is chilly too.

I just had my family excited to go Jan 19th to the 24th because we have two days off school that week...now I realize that it's right during MIDTERM week...ok, that won't work.

I can swing it the 23rd to 28th...are there any special events going on that week?? Will we be ok?

That's the timing when we generally arrive for our vacations there (except this coming year, hence the thread), and I've never noticed larger crowds or special events. Wait, scratch that...there are often the big groups of cheerleaders or foreign students but I don't think they make it any more crowded.

We've gone in early January and late January and during MLK weekend, and I'd say it's a quieter time. (OK, we've only gone during MLK weekend once- we flew down Saturday night and came back Wednesday night if I remember correctly) I don't remember the weekend itself being any busier than a normal January weekend, and once Tuesday hit it was very quiet. We're planning to go 1/10-1/16 for 2009.
