Another pronunciation question....

This explains something. When I first heard the name Adidas it was spoken by my Scottish PE teacher. So for years I called it A-dee-das until my DH teased me into saying A-di-das.

As for Primark - I have always assumed it was a shortened version of Prime Market and therefore Prymark.

Does anyone remember the christmas time Advert Primark, got a whole lotta things for Christmas, got a lot for the family I have been singing this all morning in my head Its driving me nuts lol

I couldn't possibly tell you what I call it - this is a family board ;)

I can tell you how much I hate the place though :snooty:

I say Primark with an I not an EE but officially it is Preemark, it's an Irish company but I just can't get myself to say EE no matter how hard I try - it just sounds wrong!

Oh, does that mean you'll be joining us in the pub on the Girly Weekend rather than going with the 'other' lot (can't even bring myself to type the horriblew word :rotfl:)

Mmmmmmmmm pub!

I'll certainly be in your group Joh!! :thumbsup2

ooh, I feel a tune coming on 'Do you wanna be in my gang, my gang, my gan, d'you wanna be in my gang, oh yeah' :rotfl2:

When I'm drunk enough Beth, I'll tell you a (not so) funny song about that - oh actually, it probably won't mean anything to you as you probably don't even know who Gary Glitter is ;)

If they just advertised it once or twice on the telly and someone actually SAID the names, we would all be saying the same thing ;)

I'll be in the pub gang too, Joh, as I can't stand going in that shop either! :scared1:

Everyone down here says Pr-eye-mark and as for Adidas ~ when I was at school many years ago it was Ad-eeeeee-das but over the years it's evolved into Addy-das.

Northampton too :thumbsup2

I've never heard pree-mark

I say Ocado wrong - I pronounce it Oc-a-dow where as it's supposed to be Oc-ar-do :confused3

I used to work for Waitrose, and we always called it Oc-ar-do.

I quite like Primark- but am only just a graduate, and I've had to live cheaply to fund my Disney habit! :rotfl:

I've never heard pree-mark

Pree - mark is the correct and original pronunciation. It started up in Northern Ireland and that has always been the way it is pronounced. When Primark opened up shop in England, somehow it became Pri - mark. Pree - mark is the proper way to say it and the original. :cool1:

Maggs

We say Preemark - although it's often referred to as Pradamark.....

Adeedas - said quite quickly, we don't linger on our vowels up here :rotfl:

Pry-mark here a few people joke and call in Pri-marni as in te designer armani

Pry-Mark here (loathsome place that DW makes me go into - just soooo crowded!!) and AdEEdas as well.

I believe tho that Pree-Mark is how it's meant to be said (Irish company - that's how they say it) and Adi-Das (named after founder Adi Dassler).
So I'm saying it all wrong :lmao:

:goodvibes

That's how I pronounce it too.. and the Liverpool one?
Yes, it's always extremely busy. >.<
And isn't it called Pennys in Ireland anyway?

Pry-mark here a few people joke and call in Pri-marni as in te designer armani
