How are the parking lots set up here? Is there a section that should be requested if you want to be near parking lot and car?

here the map

just don't ask for the 60's and you should be fine.

that say - I drive to most parks even when staying at a WDW resort.

don't drive when I stay at Pop. the pop buses are good and most of the time will beat you driving.

that say any time when you leave the park at closing - expect all the buses to be crowded and busy!

Also realize that your "assigned" parking lot might not be the closest one to you. We were in the 80s section during Hurricane Francis and parked in that "assigned" lot. Once we got to our room, we realized the 90s lot was right outside our window and off to the right. We were able to park there and watch our car during the storm (we had a convertible and were a bit concerned).

That's seems to happen to us everytime, I suggest parking close, find your room then move your car closer, I also find I can get a closer spot during the day, before everyone gets back from the parks. We take the bus most of the time, If I drive it's usually to Epcot or MGM.

Yes. Hint - when you do park for the first time, don't immediately grab all your luggage and start for the room. Take a few small things, find the room, and then see where you want to park.
