Another Poly Valet Parking Question

When checking into the Poly, do you have to use Valet parking? Our family of 5 is driving to WDW and we plan on parking the car and not touching it for a week. If you don't valet park, do you still get the cart ride to your room? With 3 kids we travel with alot of stuff. What if it doesn't fit in the cart - can you bring the rest to the room yourself? I know these seem like silly questions but we have never stayed here and I need to know how to direct my family once we get there.

I would advise pulling up to the front door and having a bellman help you load your stuff onto a cart. I personally let them park the car but if you want to park it yourself, I don't think they'll mind.

We never valet park our car at the Poly. Since they have instituted the checking all guests at the gate there is always plenty of parking for those resort guest to park their own car. We like to park our car closest to our longhouse. We usually need to use the car to get to MGM and AK. I just don't like to wait for a bus.
The bellman grabs our luggage out of the car and then either stores it or loads it on the golf cart and we check in and get to our vacation. We have lately been requesting to be in Tokelau so DH parks the car close to that walking path.

If you leave it in valet, you will pay $6 PER DAY. I would drop off the luggage at the bell stand and then park the car yourself or move it the next day into self parking. The bellman will load the luggage into a cart after you check-in and get your room assignment and take you to your room.

I was just thinking about this today. I really want the cart ride to the room, it's our first time at the Poly. And we are driving with 4 suitcases and a cooler. We never touch the car at WDW, so I don't want to pay $6 per day for it just sitting there. Thanks for the advice.
