I started a thread a week or so ago regarding CO changing planes for our flights and the rep wasnt able to help me but then after waiting a couple days, someone was able to bring up my flights and luckily we had been kept all together (5 of us). Anyway, another day-another situation!!! It looks like that they kept us in aisle 9 which we were originally booked for but the new plane is showing that as "Elite Status" seats (which we are not). Do you think this was an error? Should I question it? I don't want to let it go and then get moved again at the last minute. Thanks again for your help.

You are having such problems!!!! :) If they gave you those seats, just be quiet and let it happen. :) If they try to move you, raise a stink, quietly and politely.

They set aside certain seats for elite flyers. Since they changed equipment they must have needed those seats so they gave them to you. Enjoy the fact that you got the seats without being elite.

I would say that you are all set but if there are a lot of elite members flying on that flight they could change your seat assignments so I would get to the airport early. Once you have the boarding passes not much an elite could do.

Gail and Safety Mom-Thanks so much for your replies. I be you must think I'm a nut, Gail. I have to post hear since my husband stopped listening months ago LOL.

Leave it alone for now. Also don't say anything at check in except, if the gate agent makes some comments and hands you split apart seats, quitely ask for seats togehter and you may be surpised and get them back instantly.

Theymigh t change the plane yet again.

Sometimes they use the seats set aside for last minute biztravelers to keep families together instead, and elite seats may be deliberately given to non-elite travelers in this situation.

NO!!!!!, I most certainly do not think you are a NUT. I think you are a planner who wants to have the best vacation possible.
Keep posting and having fun. Personally, I love this place. :)

Hi guys-I ended up calling Continental and the rep said "that these seats should not have been assigned to us but since they are already assigned, we can keep them". I explained that I did not want to get moved the day of the flight. She said "once the seats are assigned, they would not move us". Do you think I should just move our seats now (there is still seats together in the back of the plane) or go with this? I just don't want an elite member to be able to bump us the day of the flight. Thanks again.

I would just leave it alone for now. If an elite member can't get one of those seats they may bump them to first. Let us know how it works out.

I agree with safetymom.

Stop worrying and enjoy.

Please take this is the spirit in which it is offered, which is to try to help prevent you from messing up your current good fortune. You are a glutton for punishment!!!! Stop calling them, do not call attention to this situation, leave it alone. Take my & safetymom & all the VFF's on this board's word for it. Non-elites get elite seats a lot. If the airline gave 'em to you, don't question it. And believe me, as an "elite" (that term cracks me up, bc there ain't nothing less elite than flying today), I get non-elite seats sometimes when flights are full and I check in late or whatever. So, go to the airport early - or check in on-line if CO has that option - and please, please don't call them again. You run the risk of getting some hard a** agent or someone in a bad mood who says "oh, thanks for pointing out our error, let me un-assign them now, and oops, there are no more seats together. SOL, deal with it at the airport. Bye now, have a nice day. Click."

mcnuss-Point taken!!!! I just don't want an "elite" to be upset as we only fly once a year and are not even close to having that status. We also have 3 children (8,6,4) and I don't want to be split up or sit next to an elite member that is ticked off by having to sit by us. But, I will take everyones advice (which I truly appreciate) and stop calling!! Thanks again.

One more thing, don't forget, us "elites" are moms & dads just like you who travel with our kids sometimes! Unless you tell the person sitting near you, they would not know you are not a VFF.

FWIW, I agree - just leave it alone! I've never heard of an "elite" frequent flyer member bumping someone out of an assigned seat, anyway. I've flown a lot - both as an elite flyer on NWA and on many other airlines as a "regular" passenger. Have often sat in the "elite" section and never been bumped out or seen anyone else bumped out. As far as I know, the only difference in seats (on Continental anyway) is that those "reserved" for elite flyers are in the front of the plane. It's not like they are any bigger/wider.

It's common (and indeed usually necessary) for seat assignments to be changed when the airline changes the type of plane. The farther ahead you book, the more likely it is that the schedule or plane type will change. Sometimes, they change more than once. When changes are made, the airlines do try very hard to keep parties together. However, unless you made the reservation for everyone on the same call/transaction, they have no way to know that you all belong together. I know that is not the OP's situation.

We've been separated on those occasions when one person uses FF miles or when one group/family makes a separate reservation to use a different credit card than we are using. If I am making arrangements and anticipate this could be a problem, I ask them (always, family, LOL) to let me put it all on my CC and then for them to give me a check.

If you happen to pick (or get assigned to) a bulkhead seat right behind the First Class section, you sometimes do get asked to move if that seat is needed for a disabled/handicapped person. That's rare and you usually get a comparable seat nearby and sometimes, a coupon for extra FF miles.

Lots of extra info you didn't ask for. Main point - let it go, quite calling Continental and QUIT WORRYING!!!! :D :D

I must go along with everyone else in saying, "Don't call attention to this...just enjoy!" An elite flyer isn't going to have a clue as to whether or not you are entitled to those seats (and in my view, if the airline gace them to you, then that makes you "entitled" the same as someone upgraded to first class for whatever reason). When we used to fly United and they changed some rows with more legroom to "Coach Plus," I would ask for the exit row in those sections even though we were technically not qualified (we were frequent flyers but didn't have enough miles). Often they would assign us those seats if I asked, and I didn't worry about anyone else wondering if we technically qualified. I saw enjoy yourself. :D Enough problems happen with flights, so you've got to enjoy the good things when they happen just like you put up with the bad.

There is nothing special about "elite seating" on Continental. You don't get a bigger seat or more leg room, it is just further forward in the plane. Elites on Continental would only glare at you if they thought you were getting their FC seat upgrade. To most elites anything behind the curtain is all the same. :p

I personally am elite on Continental and we don't wear tiaras or anything that denote us as elite. Sit there and act like you know what you are doing. Elites don't have a specific look, even though old business men believe that all elites should look like them. I am a platinum and many times I have been seated in FC and some old man will walk past me and say "I guess some airline employee's kid got my FC seat." A few times I have gotten snooty and said yes I AM young (29 and look younger, especially with my computer backpack and hair in a ponytail) but no I am not a airline's employee's kid. I tell them I am consultant and fly over 100K a year, many flights in paid FC, so please don't judge a book by it's cover" This usually gets me a look of shock and they march back to their economy seat. :)

I'm glad to know that I am not the only one getting attitude from these guys! While I am a bit (a-hem) older than you, I still get their looks. Honestly! I also hate the people who walk thru on their way to Coach who make comments. I always want to say "hey, if you want to fly over 150 times per year and be on the road 3 nights per week, you can sit here with me!" I also find the FA's cater to the old boy Elite problem. I have had many occasions in FC where my seat-mates coat is taken, but I sit there with mine on my lap, or when the men get offered pre-flight drinks (although that perk is just about gone on US Airways), and I don't. Once, it was so obvious that the guy next to me rang the call bell and oh so sweetly asked the FA if she hadn't forgotten something...

It's me again...... Now that I'm just a couple days away from our trip, should I call Continental and verify our seats? I won't mention the whole "elite seat" thing. I am very stressed that an "Elite" will get these seats. The flight is full. We will get to the airport extra early. Thanks for all the advice, my DH is ready to strangle me!!

do not call. you can check your seating online with your confirm #. Do not modify your ressie online when looking. If you move out of those seats you will not be allowed to move back in them.

Resist the temptation. DO NOT CALL. Does the airline you're flying offer on-line check-in? If so, why don't you do that as far in advance as it will let you?
