Another One Bites the Dust

That place looks cool. Wish I could have seen it before it closed.

IMO, the (now very inappropriately-named) "Backlot Tour" bit the dust a long time ago.

We still go on the tour once per trip, but it's sad to remember its former "glory days."

The "AFI Showcase" displays will be sorely missed.

Totally agree - the AFI Showcase area was my favorite part. Always loved to see the props and costumes.

Yes,it was really great.:)

It is a shame that instead of ending with Guests walking through wonderful exhibits,Backlot Tour will now end with Guests walking down a "wonderful" sidewalk!:)

"Magical wonderful sidewalk."

geez~that was the best part, to see items up close and be able to linger at your own pace, (no FP+needed :lmao:) I don't know..I'm getting the feeling the "D" in Disney is for D-ecline :rolleyes1

Yep, the Showcase is currently better than the rest of the "tour".

Why close that part down? What are the putting in it's place?

I enjoyed seeing Eminems grey hoody from 8 mile :/ "there's vomit on his sweater already"

That is a shame! I loved that part the most! won't be wasting time on the backlot tour!

I'm wondering if all this stuff closing so suddenly, (AI, Indy, and now this) means we are going to get Star Wars sooner than we could possibly expect. As in, before Avatarland. I'd prefer they do it right and put Harry Potter land to shame. But Universal did the HP expansion in less than 2 years. I see no reason Disney couldn't do the same. I don't think it even necessarily HAS to have an Eticket ride. Give us a replica cantina restaurant complete with music and anamatronic band, and a walk-through of the falcon and maybe a stunt show and I think everyone would be thrilled.

The backlot tour isn't closing. Just the AFI Showcase
Yet.

Given the relative locations of Indy, American Idol and the AFI Museum, if all of that space were being reallocated to a Star Wars expanison, they would have to close the entire park, bulldoze everything except Sunset Blvd, and start over.

A lot of people (myself included) would be disappointed if it didn't include an E-ticket ride. But everything else you suggest sounds great.

Indy is closing?? have I been under a rock??

I wonder if this isn't part of a bigger expansion planned. Possibly just wishful thinking, but I'm wondering if they aren't planning on expanding Pixar Place. With the success they had with Carsland in Disneyland, they could be bringing some of that fun to DHS. They could be closing AFI Showcase and soon Backlot Tour, as well, to make more room. With it's location, it seems that it makes more sense for Pixar expansion rather than Star Wars Land. Afterall, you have Muppets between the two and I haven't heard of them getting rid of Muppets. I suppose they could make Muppets be outside the area, but then they would have to get rid of ABC Commissary (could be rethemed for Cantina or something) and Sci Fi (I'd be shocked if they get rid of or re-theme this one) and completely redo Streets of America, as well. I'm just not sure that they are going that route. I'm thinking that they are looking to expand Pixar Place and bring in something similar to Radiator Springs Racers. It's the big name ride at DCA which would help take the pressure off of Toy Story Midway Mania. If they bring in Mater's Junkyard Jamboree and/or Mike and Sully to the Rescue, they'd be adding in some more family attractions which is what people have been asking for. Plus, it costs significantly less money to recreate rides already in existence than to come up with all new ones. I'm just thinking that they are planning to expand Pixar Place and the shutting down of AFI Showcase is just the beginning.

Well then where the hell is Star Wars Land going to go???

;)
