Hi everyone!! I found your site through the help of some friends of mine who frequent here and Disney.

I'm currently in the long process of beginning to plan our first family vacation there for my family of 6. I have gone 2 other times, in middle school and high school, with my family. My husband and our 4 children, ages 10.5, 8, 3, 1.5 have never been. All 4 kids will have a birthday before our trip that were planning for Dec. 26th, 2014-January 2, 2015. We plan to give them the trip on Christmas and leave later that day to begin the 17ish hour long drive down!

Things I'm trying to figure out right now is whether or not I want to stay on site or off. Since we are a larger family and there really don't seem to be very many disney discounts that can be used during our holiday visit, it seems to be around $2000 cheaper for us to stay off site. We will have our vehicle from driving down for transportatin but I worry that staying off site will cut down on the Disney excitement of this trip. But also then if my sister and brother in law figure out they are able to come with us we would already have room for them offsite and save them the cost of lodging.

I have a very early version of our itinerary started including which parks and meals each day. Where is the best place I can post that to get tips and advice on it?

I don't know a lot of the lingo yet but looking forward to learning as I go!! :)

there are 3 issues: living space, low cost and disney benefits/theming. you can pick 2... if cost is important, offsite has some great options. (but being able to use disney transportation may allow your party more flexibility to split up when the kids are older.)

be aware that that week is super hectic and there is a small chance of the MK in particular being closed to offsite guests. enjoy the sights but you will likely be limited in terms of going on rides.

there is an abbreviations FAQ on the welcome forum. you might want to bookmark it. have fun looking around (and don't miss the picture threads and forums.) :)

I had completely expected it to be very busy based on the research I ad already done, but I had no idea they could possibly close MK to offsite guest. That would put a huge damper on our trip as we currently have 2 scheduled days there and it's our most looked forward to.

Also, I found the acronym FAQ.. Thanks for the tip :)

mostly a risk on new year's eve, i suppose but something to be aware of...

Thanks I will keep checking in out and also consider alternate dates I needed. However we didn't plan on going to Disney on NYE since I knew it was a crazy day... That was going to be our down day to relax!

:welcome: Dis Friend :disrocks:

IMO - Since you are going to have your own transportation. You could splurge and save a little by planning a split stay. Plan a few days off site and finish with a grand finally at a Disney Resort.

You will go home feeling you experienced Disney at its fullest.
