Another National rental question

I just joined EMERALD with National. The CS rep told me that some of their locations will waive the underage driver fee for family members who live in the same household. (My son is just under 25.) The rep didn't know whether MCO was one of them. I wouldn't find out until I got there. (This seems odd to me. Is he just blowing smoke?)

Does anyone have a local phone number for the MCO National office so I can check in advance?

I joined AAA last week and now I discover that National no longer participates (or the other way around). Are there any other discounts I should look for? Entertainment books?

DH has a membership with Budget and their rates look good too. We need to get an answer on their underage policy too.

I have consistently gotten my best rate for National through the Entertainment book. The difference between it and all the other contract IDs + coupons has been significant. Good luck!

I know I didn't answer your question and you may or may not get the answer you are looking for. I know you have been searching for this answer for some time now. Best of luck.

Thanks Detailor. BTW, it looks like you might be a Marriott owner. How did you like Cypress Harbour? We're staying there in two weeks. Do you have any tips? Are there any room locations that are particularly good or bad? We're checking in fairly early so we might be able to make a request.

We actually own two non-Marriotts that we use to trade into Orlando and we choose Marriotts most of the time as they have met or exceeded our needs every time. As timeshares go, Marriott delivers an outstanding product, IMO.

Cypress Harbour is our favorite Orlando Marriott. We like the laid back nature of the resort, the resort services, the topnotch staff and the location.

Generally, I usually request top floor, end unit villas (we usually get top floor, sometimes end of building, and sometimes both) as that placement cuts down on noise from other villas - though we've only had a problem once, on one night from an upstairs neighbor.

I always request a building that's located on the lake and near one of the three pool areas. We particularly like building 62 that's next to the activities center and the cozy Bayside Pool - we've often been the only family using that pool facility. Earlier this year, though, we stayed in building 65 for two weeks - it's next to the walkway to the Island Pool area and a quick walk across the bridge over the lake to the big Clubhouse Pool area, Galley Grill, Pavilion Bar, and the Marketplace store. A lot of people seem to like staying in one of the buildings on either side of the Clubhouse - buildings 52 or 53 (both of which were going through some level of refurbishment back in February/March). Getting to any of the pools and activities is an easy walk from any of the CH buildings but I think if you end up in a water view building around the lake you'll love it.

Go to this link (http://www.marriottvacationclub.com...resorts/marriott-cypress-harbour/pdfs/map.pdf) to see the map of the resort and get an idea of where everything is.

I'd suggest contacting the resort now with any requests that you want to make. Email to Cypressharbour.Ram@vacationclub.com. The staff at this resort is the best, IMO, of all the Marriotts in making an effort to satisfy requests.

Getting there early is a good thing. When you get to Orlando drive directly to the resort to do a pre-check in. They'll have a copy of your request(s) and they'll start check in by taking your credit card info, etc. They'll let you use the resort's facilities if you decide to stay there and wait for your villa (getting there early probably will not help you get into your villa early unless you want to take something other than what you request, at least that's been our experience). If you decide to go off elsewhere (we almost always drive over to Disney's BoardWalk for lunch and looking around) they'll take your cell phone number and call you when the villa is ready for you - just go back to the registration desk to get you key cards and then it'll be off to your villa. I suppose they'll take your cell number if you're staying at the resort to wait, too.

This is a great resort. Enjoy your stay.

I'm glad to meet you! Am I'm glad to hear that you've had good experiences there. (Let me know if you're ever looking for trade in Kuaui or Cancun, and I can share our perspective.) Thanks for the info and the link. I think the view of the lake would be very nice.

I'm happy to help.

And thanks for the offer regarding other locations. We've gone to Cancun a few times - we trade into the Royal Resorts there or not at all. One of those Hawaiian islands is somewhere in our future so I may just come back to you for some advice, that's kind of you to offer.

I hope you enjoy your Cypress Harbour stay.

We love Royal Resorts in Cancun too! We especially like the smaller property (VCI?) on the north edge of the 7. Royal is considered one of the best employers in town, and you can see it in their customer service.

I have another transportation question. Roughly how long does it take, including parking, to get from the resort to the main parks? DH thinks it might take too much time to take a midday break back at the resort. Did you usually go to the resort midday or stay put. Also I've heard about traffic jams. Do you have any tips about best routes?

That's coincidental about VCI - while we've looked at the other Royals and have used their facilities we only stay at VCI.

On travel from Cypress Harbour...
We've been to Disney many, many times and don't usually spend a whole day anywhere and, consequently, don't generally go back to the parks if we leave. However, we've headed to the parks for mornings, mornings/afternoons, afternoons/evenings, and just evenings on various trips over the years. And the only times we've experienced any significant traffic issues have been during morning or evening rush hours on I-4 (neither of which are particularly bad from Cypress Harbour to Disney) and at park closing time when leaving a theme park in the evening (clearly the most significant traffic jams we've experienced in the Disney area). Now traffic jams are absolutely ridiculous in the Downtown Orlando area around those rush hour periods but Downtown Orlando is several miles north of the Disney area so you won't have a problem with that unless you decide to go east on I-4 well above the tourist areas.

It take 15 to 18 minutes from Cypress Harbour to Epcot parking, about the same to Hollywood Studios, closer to 20 minutes to park at the Magic Kingdom parking area (then give it another 5 to 10 minutes for the tram to/from TTC and another 5 to 10 minutes to take the monorail over to/from MK), and about 17 to 20 minutes to get to parking at AK.

To get to the parks, from the Cypress Harbour exit turn right onto Westwood Boulevard, continue about a half mile to the intersection with Central Florida Parkway (get into the left most lane) turn left onto CFP, then immediately get over to the left following the sign to I-4 West Tampa. That'll aim you toward Disney (the first exit goes to Downtown Disney and the various Disney parks are all well marked on succeeding exits). That's probably the easiest and quickest route to take and Cypress Harbour's location makes access to I-4 West quite simple.

We're heading down tomorrow morning so feel free to ask any other last minute questions before your trip as I'll be back online tomorrow evening.

OP, try looking at the car rental page on mousesavers.com. Coupons and discount codes (if you belong to the various groups) available for a multitude of car rental places. Takes a bit of work but I usually find a good deal.
