Well... this past weekend I made another milestone.

I weighed in and I have now lost 51.5 pounds!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

And this is in about 51.5 weeks LOL. So I guess my average is a pound a week....some more some less...

How did I do it?? Well, controlled carbs. The Debbie version of Atkins. Basically, I am doing atkins to a point. When I began, I weaned myself off of the carbs. Pasta was a staple food and a side dish just about every night. And if it was not pasta it was potatoes or rice. So I just slowly stopped eating them. And over time, just pretty much stopped. Then I kinda did induction. I did what worked for me.

One of the secrets for me, is the way I look at things. If I have a piece of bread or a small bag of M&M's.. "I AM NOT GOING TO DIE!" I have learned that if I deprive myself of things I love, it will not work. The cafeteria at my office makes an incredible, can't ever pass it up--- mac & cheese, so now I just have a little. I am a chocoholic... and thank goodness I have found some incredible SF/Low Carb chocolate called Ashers. Not sure what I would have done.

I have now found a local - well 25 minutes away - Low Carb store. La Tortilla brand tortilla's are my friend :teeth:. I visit there almost every week and get something. They have alot of great treats and the sell online! They are getting so popular that they are going to be moving to a larger location and will be expanding their low-carb section.

So I have about 41 pounds to go. In my mind I still see the person that is 50 lbs heavier. Even though everyone tells me differently and I have had to go and get a new wardrobe twice. Thank goodness my mom can sew and she has started tailoring some of my "older" stuff so I don't go broke. I am beginning to see it, looking back at some pictures, but I guess when you have been this heavy for so long.. it is bound to be that way. First, lose the weight, second lose the image in my brain :)

Thanks to all of you here, I lurk mostly, but get so much inspiration from you all.

Debbie

WOW!!! 51.5 pounds is wonderful! Now just get that "old" you out of your head and realize how much thinner you look now!! It has taken a lot of determination and grit to lose so much--you deserve a new "image" of you in your head!

I really think the way you are going about this is great! Everyone knows that a slow weight loss is best! You are really making some meaningful changes in your life style and it shows!

You are such an inspiration to me!! I have just begun and still have about 130 pounds to go. It really helps to know that it can be done! Thanks for posting!!!!:D :D

WOW! Debbie, sounds like you are doing really great! I wish we could have made it to Towncrier's this year. I would have loved to talk to you about how you're doing this. I'm trying to wean myself off carbs, too. I have a long way to go to do it though. It is encouraging to me to see how well it has worked for you.

Debbie, that is positively wonderful!! Way to go on such a great accomplishment!! You are definitely an inspiration to me! Keep up the great work!! :)

Woo-hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have a great attitude!!!!!! I love that you are allowing yourself to have those special treats that you would otherwise feel deprived without. And you have lost a GREAT amount of weight!!! Good for you! So do you plan to eat this way for the rest of your life? I plan to follow my WW routine, modified, once I reach my goal. I love your post. You should be very proud of yourself!!!!!!! It's like you know you don't have to rush through this and you are taking it all in stride. :) :) :) :) :)

Thanks for sharing. Would love to see you posting more on WISH! :) You are a great inspiration!

Thanks guys. Yes I do plan on staying with this. It is now a way of life. Not a diet.

All of this weight did not happen overnight, so it is not going away overnight. I suppose if I actually did some physical exercise more would come off. :)

That is the next step, increasing my exercising.

Thanks for the support :)

Debbie

I'm in awe. Congratulations on doing so well and giving us newbies much needed inspiration.

Yay for you. :) :)

Way to go, Debbie! That is awesome! You look wonderful!! :bounce: :bounce:

Where is this low carb place you've found? I've been wondering where I could get low carb tortilla's without ordering online! :teeth:

Congratulations, Debbie! You should be very, very proud of yourself!!! Enjoy the results of all your hard work!

And the best thing you can do is to stop thinking of it as a "diet"!

You must be feeling very proud, losing 51.5 pounds is quite an accomplishment.

I'm a tad envious that you can eat refined carbohydrates. I'm such an addict that if I had just one bite I would start craving them and then I would be in big trouble.

Isn't it interesting how everyone is unique in the way they lose weight.

Getting rid of the "fat" mindset isn't easy to do, good luck with that and if you find a secret formula for "thinking thin" please share it with me. I have the same problem as you :)
