I've seen a lot of questions about the Memory Maker now being free with APs, but I haven't seen this exact question. Sorry if it's been asked before. I tried to do the research before posting, but couldn't find the answer anywhere.

Right now, we have eight day "water park fun and more" hoppers four our trip in May. We plan to upgrade to the annual pass with water parks while we are there. However, we were planning on waiting til late in our trip to do the upgrade, because the APs will NOT include Disney Quest and the "water park and more" tickets DO still include DQ as long as it remains open. My 12 year old loves DQ and we plan to use quite a few of our eight "plus" visits there, so if we do the AP upgrade early in the trip, we would have to pay extra out of pocket for those DQ visits, and they are expensive!

So, if we wait til late in the trip to upgrade to APs, will we only be able to download for free the pics that are added to our photo pass account AFTER the upgrade? Or will all the pics associated with our account be eligible for the free downloads, even those that were taken before we upgraded?

Hope this question makes sense. Lol.

I think for a couple reasons it would work - first of all, your AP expiration date would be based on the day you first use your tickets, not the day you upgrade so it should make your pass retroactive to beginning whenever you first used any entry. Second, we just renewed our passes (which expire in early May) but technically don't pick up the MM until then (and they emphasized this when we picked up our new card at the ticket booth). However, I am able to go in and download all pics going back to last May (within the last year) even though I shouldn't have had MM during that time.

Thanks so much for the information. I was thinking it would work that way, but I just wondered if anybody else had any thoughts. I appreciate it!

@GEM I have a question about Disney Quest and the AP upgrade, and it sounds like your experience is similar.
My kids also really like Disney Quest and would like to go there several times during our upcoming trip. I was going to get the "water park and more" MYW tickets, and use them for most of our trip. This would allow us to go to Disney Quest with those tickets. Then, on the last day or two of our trip I would upgrade our tickets to Platinum Plus APs (at this point we would no longer be able to go to Disney Quest).

My concern is that if we use the "MYW Water Park and More" ticket to get into Disney Quest, will we be locked out of upgrading to the Platinum Plus APs since Disney Quest is not included with the APs? I am worried that using an enitlement from the MYW ticket that is not a part of the AP will cause the AP upgrade to not be allowed. We have several short trips planned for later this year and would need the APs, so I am concerned about not being able to upgrade if we do this.

It looks you were in a situation like this, so if you could share if this worked out for you it would be very helpful.

If anyone else has been in this situation (upgrading to a Platinum Plus AP from a water park and more ticket since last years AP changes), please share your experience.

Thanks!

That's exactly what we did on our trip earlier this month. We used about half of our eight WP and More options to get into DQ, and had no trouble upgrading to the Platinum Plus AP on the last day.

Thanks @GEM for the confirmaiton! This makes me feel much better about the process. My kids will be excited to know that they will be able to go to Disney Quest again this trip, as I had told them last year it was going to close!
