Another mask question

This is aimed mostly at people who have tracheostomy’s but I’d love any input. Both my kids have trachs with completely occluded upper airways so no air enters or leaves the mouth or nose. All through the neck. Do I put face masks on to make everyone happy, mask over the trach where air exchange occurs (they use HMEs) or both?

If asking specifically for WDW - I think they will require one on the face, regardless. They are not making any exceptions, and not masking the face might just “invite” comments or unwanted attention in today’s world. That’s assuming it would be safe to mask their faces, without risk of chewing on the mask or choking or any other hazard to them.

As to whether to mask the trach - i’d ask their doctor(s) what is recommended.

Honestly, I would agree with lanejudy that a mask on the face is required, assuming it is safe to do so. But as for the trach, I have no idea and would agree to ask their doctor(s), but please do come back and let us know what they say.

If it won't irritate the trach, you should be able to use gaiter around their throats along with masks.

from what I am reading the Gaiter would be around the guest's neck not mouth and nose. would be in addition to a mask on face think that would be allowed

You can't use a gaiter as your mask, but you can wear one around your neck (or head or elsewhere) in addition to the mask. It's just that your mask (the fabric over your mouth and nose) needs to have ties or elastic.

Yes, exactly. I double-checked in case I messed up, but no. I definitely stated, "...along with masks." To elaborate, the OP would use the gaiter as a scarf ( to cover/protect the tracheotomy) AND properly place masks in her childrens' faces if they're not able to do it themselves.
