Will be using ME for the first time just for transportation back to airport. I read in one of the guide books that sometimes you will be assigned to a bus time to go back to MCO many hours before your flight leaves. Staying at AOA and departure time is around 2pm with Southwest. I understand to check bags with resort at least 3 hours before flight. Can I request a latest time to leave or do I not have a choice? Hoping to stay as long as possible at the resort since we will only be there for 1 night after our cruise.

Your pick-up time will be approximately three hours before your scheduled flight departure for a domestic flight (four hours for an international flight) and you should plan on being at the bus stop 10-15 minutes before your pick-up time. They will not allow you to schedule a later time (although you can request an earlier pick up) and if you just try to show up later there may or may not be a bus scheduled and you may or may not be able to get on a bus if it shows up.

the reason for the 3 hrs is because the DME picks up at several resorts. You could be the 1st or 3rd pick-up. If they let you switch ( and I doubt it) and you miss your flight because you had a later bus, you can only blame yourself not disney. They give you a pick-up that will work for your flight time. You could also get your own ride back but you will have to pay for it and it would only save you about 45 min to an hr.
