We are planning a trip to the Fort in Oct., cant wait. We have a reservation for a preferred loop. We also have reserved a golf cart. Do we really need to have the cart if we are in one of those loops anyway? Or can we get away with picking another non-preferred loop. Are they just as nice as the preferred loops? We dont care if we need to jump in the cart if we need anything. Are the other loops quieter, more secluded? The reason we picked a preferred loop is because a friend said "its the place to be at the Fort" Thanks guys in advance....seems like you have answers to everything. I also heard that the peacocks are gone, is this true?

Sadly no more peacocks.

The preferred loops are no nicer than the regular loops. They are just better located closer to the center of activities and transportation, especially loop 100 -- our favorite.

No, you don't need a cart. We own one but never take it to the fort. They are certainly nice to have, a little quicker than waiting on the bus, but not a necessity -- especially with a preferred loop.

As for loops being quieter, I think that depends on where you are within any given loop. If you're at the center of the loop, you don't have as much traffic as you would at the beginning of the loop. And certainly if you're next to the bath house it won't be as quiet.

Timbo128-

Welcome to the Disboards.

As frequent Fort campers, we always requested preferred loops. The only difference between a preferred loop and a full hook up is cable TV, and you are a little closer to the Settlement area.

Last Thanksgiving (2006), we couldn't get reservations for a preferred site, and got assigned to the 1100 loop (full hook-up), and we loved it! In my opinion, the full hook up loops are more spacious.

A golf cart is not a necessity at the Fort. You can get around just fine on your feet and the provided bus transportation.

So, unless you really want cable TV, go for the full hook up site instead.

Have a great trip!

Welcome Timbo,

Golf Carts are generally a luxury, not a needed item. We have always stayed in preferred loops (700 & 300) and have always had a golf cart (just cuz). My personal preference is for the 700 loop. Had a bit more room than the 300 loop to my eyes and thought it was more convenient to buses and the Marina area. 100 loop looks to be the ultimate loop for ideal location to Marina but has been full up every time at check-in.

I personally wouldn't mind a full hook-up but do like having the onsite Disney channels and such for the kids (although they really need to do something about those grating DVC infomercials). :lmao:

I did not see the peacocks there in March 2007. Lotsa bunnies and armadillos though.

Give preferred a try and see for yourself.

Regards,

100 the best prefered loop IMHO............

leave the golf cart on the golf course........the money you'll save each day you don't will pay for a park ticket......besides your only 100 yards from pioneer hall and the marina...

The 100 is the "preferred" preferred loop! But, they are expanding preferred sites into a lot of loops. This past weekend (8/17 to 8/19) we noticed CATV being installed into the 1400 loop - but don't know if that is now considered a preferred loop. 1400 is close to the movie, pool and meadow trading, but not close to restaurant, beach & marina.

Unless you want CATV, you really don't need a preferred site. As far as a golf cart is concerned, that's a personal preference. We own our cart & take it with us each trip - but if we didn't own one, we probably would not go to the expense of renting one. If you plan on spending a lot of time in the parks, you probably don't want to have the added expense of a golf cart.

Well des1954, I hate to sound like a know it all, but the 1400 loop has been a preferred loop for at least the last ten years. When the TCD kids were younger, we used to request the 1400 loop, preferably the sites that back up to the campfire area. The kids used to think it was neat to be able to watch the movie (barely) from the site. Now, if we want a preferred site, we ask for the 800 loop. The 100, 200 and 300 loops are nice, too. But, I think you get more space in the 800 loop.
