i don't usually post long sad threads..but I am joining a few other DIS'ers this weekend in saying goodbye to my poor furbaby...
4 years ago..my neighbor found a kitten hiding under their shed in the dead of winter..they had a dog..so couldn't keep her..I took her in..someone had mistreated her..perhaps kicked her or just thrown her out..she was one of those 'so ugly she was pretty' kitties..black,brown, white,,I named her Miss Houdini (cause she kept disappearing and reappearing)..but hubby renamed her Doobie..said that's what she looked like..so she joined my 13 year old cat Simba..she always had a little trouble with her back, probably from being mistreated..but she was lovable in her own way..she had started losing weight recently..and Fri nite, all of a sudden had trouble walking..she laid on her quilt for most of that nite, and Sat too..this morning...she was pulling herself around by her front paws..we were gonna take her to the vets tomorrow to have her put to sleep so she wouldn't suffer..but she wanted to go in her own time, I guess...I picked her up and held her..her breathing was getting shallow..I told hubby she wasn't gonna make it much longer..he went out and dug a big hole in her favorite spot in the yard..and found a nice wooden box..as he was finishing digging the hole..it started to pour..I came in and found her still in the same position on her quilt as she had been..I sat on the floor next to her and just kept petting her..tried to give her some water with an eye dropper, but she couldn't seem to swallow it very well..I just stroked her chin and her head for about 20 min...then she looked up at me...took 1 last breath..and was gone...just then the sun came out..I picked her up..brought her into where my other cat was laying in the sun (the 2 of them NEVER got along)..and Simba put her nose right up to Doobie's as if to kiss her goodbye..think I was crying before that?..the waterworks really started...so we got her favorite blanket, wrapped her in it..I put her favorite toy and her catnip pouch with her name on it with her..and we buried her in her favorite spot..hubby is making her a name plaque to put at that spot..
So to all the other DIS'ers who lost their furbabies this week..you have my sympathies..and I ask that all of you ask your departed babies to welcome mine to the Rainbow Bridge and show her the ropes till she finds her way around
To any of you still with me after all this..sorry it got so long..but I have to get it out and I know you guys will read this if interested, and if not..just pass on it!

There must be some big cat convention going on in Heaven this weekend that we didn't know about!

Losing a pet is heartbreaking. I have 3 cats, and I will be crying for days on end when they leave us.

So sorry to hear of your loss this weekend.

 I hope that my Jack and Kitty are there to greet little Doobie. :sad1:

I am sorry about Miss Houdini (Doobie) and yes I fervently believe that Simba kissed her goodbye...I thought I had comforting words to share with you but I quoted above how beatifully you said it  we have 6 furbabies that are over there in the loving care of my Dad & I believe with all my heart your girl has just moved on to join a bigger pack where she will look after you:littleangel:

i ..I just stroked her chin and her head for about 20 min...then she looked up at me...took 1 last breath..and was gone...just then the sun came out..!

I think God let you know that everything is OK, she is in a better place now.

Kitty has been gone for almost 3 years. She, too, was very timid. It was easier having Jack to help getting over the passing of Kitty. Jack has now been gone 7 months but I still think about him every day. I am comforted knowing that they are together again. How lucky we were to have such loving companions in our lives, even if it was only for a short time.

:sad1:

It isn't easy getting over the loss of a pet. In the past three=four years, out 3 cats have passend on. The last one was last summer. Each time I left the vet, I was blubbering..... They were definitely part of the family.

Well, we decided it was time. This afternoon we picked up two kitties (two months old). My SIL's friends cat had 6 and had been looking for homes.

We now have Roxie and Rascal.

Missing Snuffles, Harley, Mr. Red and Oinker.

Hope you feel better soon!

I am so sorry and I understand the hurt. My thoughts are with you.

This has been a heartbreaking weekend. :grouphug:

Fergie also kissed Diana on her head about 5 minutes before she passed on. I guess they know before we do.

I am glad that Kaliope, Doobie and Diana are keeping each other company in Heaven. Diana was a good girl but a little slow so I'm glad she doesn't have to figure things to by herself.

So, so sorry. I am dreading the day when that comes for my 13 year old basset, but like I said to other poster who lost their furbaby this weekend-- at least she passed on in her favorite place, with the person who loved her most in the world petting her...

I'm sorry about Doobie. You are angel for taking her in and giving her four years of love. RIP Doobie.

Oh I'm so sorry! I lost Malcolm and Spike within 3 months of eachother last spring. They will also befriend your baby. They play like kittens even though they are adults. Malcolm was also a "throwaway" I found on the street. He'll have lots to talk about with Doobie.
