Monday, the 17th dawned cold and grey. DH, DSD, DD and I went to Mara for breakfast as a change from Boma. While there I checked my cell phone and found I had missed a call from BF. DH told me not to call her back. Walking back to the room, the phone rang, again BF. Again DH told me not to answer. I was getting ticked. I mean, OK, so I don't agree with her stance on environmentalism and some of her manners bothered me, but she is the closest thing I have to a sister and we have a really long history together. We headed over to AK and I saw I had another message from BF. This time I picked it up. She was calling to say that they were leaving, they loved my DD and good-bye. Ever have one of those moments where you are relieved and upset all at the same time? I wanted to call back but DH said no. However a few minutes later his phone rang and it was BF so he said that perhaps I should. I called and found out they were almost to Tampa. We chatted a minute and then said good-by. It's difficult when old friendships change.

It was so cold that most of the animals in the front area were no where to be seen. They were the intelligento ones. We got fast passes for safari and then did the Pangani trail. There were animals out but boy did they look unhappy. Can't say as I blame them.

By the time we finished the fast passes were timed in, so we went over to KS and got on line. By now DD is having minor temper tantrums. So long as I hold her she is ok. Because of the cold, there were a lot of animals out sunning themselves. We got a great close up of a giraffe's rump. And DH took a photo of the crocs sunning themselves that he is going to entitled Hotel swimming pool - shallow end.

The trouble started when we got off. DD had a major tantrum. I calmly announced to DSD and DH that I was going to eviscerate her and leave her for the buzzards. Actually I strapped her in her stroller and headed for the exit as quickly as I could, probably mowing little old ladies down hither and thither. Dumping the stroller at the returns area, I picked her up and started the long trek to the bus, with DD alternately screaming and flailing. At one point she caught me under the chin and it really hurt. But once I got her on the bus, she calmed down. I wanted to hit Mara for some lunch, it being that time of day, but she kept asking where room?, so I explored the In-room dining options. DD enjoyed her hot dog and I enjoyed my ham and cheese sandwich, but darn it was expensive. $50 plus tip once all the taxes etc. were added on. Worth it however because as soon as she ate, DD fell asleep and didn't wake up until DH and DSD came traipsing in 2 hours later, many plastic bags in hand.

That night we had PS at Ohana. DD who never before had evidenced any interest in shrimp suddenly became a shrimp eating machine. DH had to peel them for DD, DSD and himself. Our waiter just kept bringing the shrimp spit to our table. I have to say that I used to enjoy Ohana, but this time the meats seemed dry, touch and tasteless. The wonton were good however. And of course the drinks were excellent.

After dinner we went to DTD to show DSD the stores. She was returning home the next day and this was our only chance. It was bitterly cold - the wind cutting right through you. DD was in her stroller with a winter coat, hat, mittens, sweatshirt and blanket and fell asleep. DSD loved the guitar store and Virgin Megastore. She opined that if her boyfriend got there he would never leave.

By the time we finished the WEst Side it was late. We had a wait for the bus back to AKL but once it got there we were returned to AKL fairly quickly. This trip the transport seemed a bit slow - reliable but slow.

But now with DSD going home and our transfer to the Poly for the last 4 days of our stay, things were going to be interesting. It would only be 2 adults to watch a 2 year old toddler. Oy.

We are planning on eating at O'hanas in April. I've only eaten there for breakfast but I've heard that dinner is good. Even though you said it has changed, do you still recommend it?
