I think your plan sounds fine since you have dinner ressie @ the Poly that night, you ABSOLUTELY have a right to park at the hotel. Disney won't care if you park there for a few extra hours. It's not like they have a restriction on how early you can arrive for your dinner reservations.

Yes they do have restrictions it is for three hours for non resort guests. Why should the Poly guest not have places to park.

Depends on the resort, the day you are there, the time, the crowd level, and the guard on duty.

Went to AKL for breakfast on a Saturday Morning during a slow week.

The guard asked for my ADR #, my Drivers Licence and plate number (I was waiting for him to also ask for a urine sample ) before giving me a 3 hour parking pass.

Went to WL for Breakfast also on a Saturday on a busier week. Pulled up to the shack and before I could say we had an ADR, the guard asked " Just visiting, go on through, have a magical day "

I would recommend parking at the TTC. No need to pay anything since you're a WDW resort guest. Then, you can just walk over to the Polynesian...very nice walk through the resort..takes less than 10 mins.

It is a nice walk. Once you get past the small fence, the walk across the Poly property is great!

Wow...seriously?? You are not supposed to be walking from WL to the TTC. That's kind of nutty, not to mention dangerous.

Not dangerous at all. I do it every trip. Sometimes I get stopped at the gate on the way in, but I show my room key and DVC Member card and have never had an issue. You can walk anywhere you want on property, so there is no way they can stop yo ufrom walking from WL to TTC. I stay on the grass and walk against traffic. The trip has been a bit nicer now that they removed the kennel from there.

She is a resort guest for the afternoon b/c she has dinner reservations. I would agree with you if she was just parking there for the fireworks, but since she has dinner reservations there, she is allowed to park there. Disney does not frown on guest spending $$$ at there resorts.

The PP was referring to the time the OP was going to spend at the resort. Once she leaves to go to the MK she is no longer a guest of that resort.

Actually just parking for the fireworks is still mostly OK because she is staying at the resort (and possibly spending money there). Again its the leaving to go to the MK that kind of crosses the line.

I personally think it's ok.
You are allowed to park at the poly in order to dine at the poly...I have done it many times.
If you're really just spending an extra hour or two, what's the big deal? You're not tying up a spot for the day, and you are patronizing the hotel.

I totally did not mean to start a hot topic. I was actually trying to figure things out before going so I didn't make a mistake. I kinda feeling like I'm getting flamed for trying to do the right thing here. Sorry! Disney World has changed a lot in the 18 years since I have been there, so I was just trying to figure things out.

On a good note (because that is how I like to end things) I didn't realize that the TTC was so close to the Poly. I had originally planned to park at MK and then go over to Poly and back from that but was not sure if I would be able to get back through MK without a MVMCP ticket. I think I understand things better now. Disney Transportation can be very confusing to a newbie!

My plan for Dec 11 is to go to AK in the morning and head back to CSR for an afternoon rest. That night we will go to the Poly to eat at O'hana. We do want to spend a little time at MK before we go to our ressie at 7:00. Can I drive to the Poly early and park there, take the monorail to MK for a while and then come back for supper? We want to watch Holiday Wishes from the beach but thought driving back would be easier on our little ones then all the transfers needed with using Disney Transportation getting back to CSR at such a late hour.

Maybe this is a bad plan anyway

Please stop me if I'm about to do something that is illogical or a big No-No!

Think you kind of answered your own question....why would it be o.k. for someone to have a reservation at a restaurant...arrive early and go off to the park for a few hours...return to eat then watch fireworks, etc. at the same hotel. Imagine you and lots of other people did---especially during a busy time such as the Christmas holiday. There is not going to be parking for the resort guests who paid to stay at that resort.

We stayed at the Polynesian twice in the past 6 years (and prior to that lots growing up). We had an awful time our first night 3 years ago when we came back from a Walmart run---it was a Saturday night and obviously luau time...the lot was full....cars driving up and down the aisles to find a spot. I took me 15 minutes to find a spot---and I was a paying resort guest. Yes, those people for the luau had every right to park there===but not for hours on end. I finally followed someone to their car and got a spot. Learned not to leave at luau time!

TTC is not far and is a pretty walk....park there and do what you know is right!

Can't believe how others seem to think it is o.k. .....REALLY!

I tend to avoid this conversation like the plague. But it seems to me that everytime this topic comes up, it is one of the worst ones for fighting, gnashing of teeth, pulling of hair, accusations of being a "Disney Cop" or "rule Gestapo", and at one point in one thread, I'm fairly certian I saw someone hurl a '62 Oldsmobile Cutlass.

I would love someone (and by someone, I mean someone else. . .I'm too lazy) to post the ACTUAL park policy regarding parking at resorts other than your own.

From that point, the OP can just make their own decision based on their interpretation and conscience.

I can assume that the Cutless was self-parked at the CR while the owner went to MVMCP...right???

Fence? What fence are you talking about? There is no fence between TTC and the Polynesian.
And if Disney wanted you walking from WL to the TTC then there would be sidewalks. It is assumed (yes, I know what happens when you assume) that if guests don't see a sidewalk, they shouldn't be walking. And yes, people have been stopped, by Disney CMs, while walking and told that Disney really doesn't want people walking around on the roadsides.

Don't worry about it. You aren't the issue...it would be those who refuse to realize that there are, sometimes, varying rules and policies at WDW.

It is very easy to get from the TTC to the Polynesian. When you get off the tram, you just head to the left.....when you get to the far left side of the TTC you will see signage that shows you the path to the Polynesian...very nice walk.
And now that the esteemed Theme Parks moderator has moved this thread over to Transportation, I can only hope that you get only polite responses.

I can tell you at POR/POFQ they do enforce it, because people park in the DTD parking lot, then take the water taxi over and take the park buses without paying for parking.

Back when I first started going there, they didn't because park buses were running from DTD. But once it was realized that people were taking up parking spots used by people who patronized DTD, they started being more diligent.

I have seen a couple of cars towed from there, especially around the holiday season.

Must be hit or miss. We did not receive a pass this past August when we went to the luau. Perhaps Disney should have reserved parking for people staying at the resort....wouldn't that solve the problem? If you don't have a key from the Poly, the gate will not open to that area and you will not be allowed to park....

My advice to the OP is to Valet Park at the Polynesian because this way you won't effect any of the guests staying there who used the self parking lot.

Actually, if you go out the WL via the back way, and go in the "back door" of the TTC, it's not very dangerous at all, and not very far, either.

I actually learned the route from a WDW Cast member at the TTC. Can't remember why he was telling me, and at first I didn't even believe him.

I would interpret the lack of a sidewalk to mean it's not a route that they're going to recommend or encourage, which isn't quite the same as not permitted.

Now if someone tried to walk from the TTC to the *Contemporary*, going under the bridge, *that* I can understand as being not allowed - that narrow underpass would be genuinely dangerous.

There are indeed certain times of day when I wouldn't want to try it. And I almost certainly wouldn't want to cross World Drive at night without a signal for protection, even where there's a cross-walk.

But if it's 3:30 in the afternoon, it should be safe, as long as we look both ways first.
