I am wondering if it would be better to get the 3GS today and still be able to get the unlimited data plan (since this option ends today) for $30/month, or would it be better to wait until the new iphone comes out and just go with the $25/month limited data plan. Any thoughts or ideas?

I pay $30/month for the unlimited plan right now. I checked my usage when I heard about the new plans. I don't even use 1 MB per month, so I want to change my plan to save some $$$. It all depends on how much data you use per month, and if you'll use WIFI or the 3GS service. If you use mostly WIFI then the plan can save you money. Is there any way that you can figure that out?

I checked and the most I've ever used was 0.75GB so switching to the 2GB plan will save me $5/month. I'm good with that. We ran the numbers because my wife is in your situation, about to get an iPhone, and we had to decide what to do. We decided to wait. That way, the price will drop on the 16GB 3GS so she'll get a better phone for less and get a cheaper data plan, so a double savings.

Thanks for the replies. I think I would come out better with the new data plans too.

I hope I will, too. Anyone pre-ordering the new one?

It makes me nervous to give up the cheapie plan I have from Sprint from being a customer for so long. The Iphone plan will be a budget hit but I think it's time to get a smartphone. Started debating about other brands that have better plans, but have been so happy with the apple products I have, I can't imagine getting a non-Apple smartphone.

DH and I will pre order the new iPhones. We are going to watch our data useage over the next few months to see which data plan we can drop down to. It may save us over $160 a year.

I've decided to get the new iPhone for my birthday in August. Since it has so many more cool features I'll just start out with the largest plan and then drop if I need to. :lmao:

For kicks I went to AT&T's website and worked up a plan for me (iPhone) and my DD's (just free generic phones). The plan came to 124.99 (Nation 550 Family talk with Rollover minutes) before taxes. I have a question about the 'messaging unlimited for families'...can we text to people on other networks (verizon, sprint, ect) without additional charges? and how much is my plan really going to cost me after taxes?
