Another iPad Question...

I have an iphone4 BUT we moved to an area with ZERO cellular service. I pretty much pay each month to use my phone to check facebook and email. What a waste of money! So, is the ipad my other option and get a pay as I go cell phone?

I don't have a smart phone and use a pay as you go by Virgin Mobile. I only use iPad with wifi at home or when away and do use it for email and Facebook. Are you talking about getting an iPad with 3G though?

I hope someone can come with a definite answer to that, but I kind of think you do. I read something on some board yesterday that said something about paying $25 a month (which doesn't seem all that awful, until you add it up for a year).

oooooh, the ipad will not be an option if I have to pay EVERY month whether I use it or not. I hope someone can anwer that indeed!

You might want to look at Virgin Mobile and see what their coverage is for your area. My kids both use smartphones from them, Blackberry for one, Droid for the other. We pay $25 a month for Droid and $35 a month for Blackberry with no contract. They both use their phones for websearching, email, facebook, twitter, etc. That might be an option for you.

The ipad 3g does NOT required a contract. It's pay as you go. The service will renew monthly however if you don't cancel it.

Question for you though...if there is no service for your iPhone, will the iPad 3G work?

I have wi fi at the house. There are areas around here that also have wifi. The ONLY carrier that gets some service around here (the next town over) is AT&T. Not sure if they have some sort of pay as you go or not. I would love to be able to use my iphone as a pay as I go, is that even possible?
I was just thinking that I could do what I needed on an ipad and I could take the ipad with me to soccer practices and such and use the 3G then. Also, my husband is needing a new laptop. Mine is pretty new and he would be willing to take my laptop and I could get the ipad!! I have some birthday money and I would not mind it being my (early) Christmas!

I don't understand your question. What does an iPad have to do with a cell phone? If you don't get cell service, why would a pre-paid phone work?

I am using my phone pretty much as a portable laptop. I check my facebook and email at the house with it and when I go some place that his wi fi. We do not get cellular service, but I would like to have a cell phone when I DO go some place that has cell service. Hence, the pay as I go phone. In other words, it is not worth it to me to pay my monthly cell phone bill to do what I can do on an ipad free. If I took the money I am paying PER month to use my phone (pretty much as a computer) I would have spent enough in a year to buy an ipad, a pay as I go phone and the fee (if I use it) for the 3G.
