another hijacked thread!

OP, if this your thread about rudeness, your point has been proven.

Did the OP make an error? All I've seen is several people pointing out an error that another DISer made. Yes, it was a mistake but has this individual even had a chance to post the correct wording now?

I don't call this being rude so much as nagging.

Yes. The individual has come back and said they "prefer" to use the incorrect words. :confused3

Pointing out a mistake can be a kindness, like someone pointing out that you've got toilet paper trailing from your shoe. I know if I'm dragging 4 feet of t.p. behind me, I'd like to be told so that I can quickly fix it.

Pointing it out doesn't automatically mean you're also making fun of the person who made the mistake. If the person who made the mistake is overly sensitive, they may take it that way, though. :confused3

Agreed, 100% :thumbsup2

I look at it this way: in this case, the corrector may have caused the offender a bit of embarrassment by the correction in this forum, but think of all the future embarrassment she saved her. In an ideal situation, the offender would thank the corrector; for she will never again embarrass herself by making the same mistake.

In this case though, the offender seems too proud and/or thickheaded to even admit the mistake, let alone give thanks.

Is that good reason to drag someone else's thread off topic?
First, I was simply answering a question.
Second, I see message boards just as I do live conversations (although a bit slower) with a group. Someone starts talking about a movie they saw, that reminds someone about the dinner they had, that reminds someone else about a road trip, and the next thing you know you're talking about FP 'abuse'. :rotfl:

I don't see anything in the Dis "rules" that say you MUST talk about the OP. Apparently the OP didn't keep enough people's interest, otherwise they'd still be talking about it.

It doesn't help the OP deleted the OP ("I'm taking my ball and going home") simply because no one was talking about it. :rotfl2:

Yes, she defended her usage of the incorrect words and that apparently drove everyone into a tailspin. (I arrived after it was over.)

It's kind of like when Clinton said, yes, he smoked pot, but he didn't inhale. That just made what he said more memorable and ridiculous.

Had the OP of that unfortunate term just said "Oops!" or "My bad! I always thought those were the words. :rotfl: " People probably would have just moved passed it.

Once the person responded, regardless of whether he/she admitted the error, people should have allowed the thread to return to topic. Failing to do so was rude to anyone who was interested in the actual topic and made these posters look childish, in my opinion.

Since this thread is about correcting people..... You mean, yes THEY did, not yes THE did.

Yes, ofcourse you are aloud to have your opinion. I was just asking why does it matter so much on a message board, that's all. In MY opinion grammer and spelling isn't a big deal on message boards, FB, text messages. Not that I go around trying to sound dumb.

I just don't think it's nice to go around correcting people for a mistake. Just because it's "someones" opinion (not you) that all spelling and grammer has to be perfect, does that give people a right to make fun of the person who made the mistake?

:rotfl2: One good snark deserves another: the word you're looking for is "allowed". Now I'll sit back and wait for my turn. ;)

OP, I'm not sure which side I come down on. No, it's not worth getting into an altercation but at the same time I'm really sick and tired of letting rude people get away with it and not calling them out on their rude behavior. Your daughter will find out for herself that, unfortunately, this is the direction the world is heading. Hopefully the younger generation will turn it around.

.

Now, in my opinion, I would find this helpful because if it was something I repeatedly did I would want to know. Spell check wouldn't pick this up because it's spelled correctly, just not for the meaning intended. I would like to think this is why the majority of people point it out.

opps!! lol

Thank you for taking it the way I intended -- to lighten up the mood a little. We all do it. I have a habit of missing words when I type. My mind is so far ahead of my fingers that I leave out entire words or I type "it" instead of "is"....

Welcome to the DISBoards and I hope you'll hang around. Once you get the lay of the land it's really a great place to hang around and meet new people.

But apparently not enough people were interested in the original topic. If they were, they would have posted, and it would have returned on topic.

Now, you're taking the thread off topic by talking about taking the thread off topic. :lmao:

Thank you for the welcome!:)

I think that it's great that the just previous error was pointed out. Now if 25 DISers all point it out and it leads to a long discussion over that error then it's a bit much IMO.

I think that's a cop out. People continue to pop into the thread and give an on-topic comment. If people aren't interested in discussing the issue, the thread should be allowed to die. It shouldn't be turned into an off-topic playground.

And you're entitled to that opinion. Although I can picture the mods going around and making sure every thread stays on topic...
