another hijacked thread!

manors are one of the first thing to go when a society declines ( I just made that up, but it sounds right )

Or quite possibly manners seem to wane as technology advances; I pods, I pads, Kindles, 4 G phones, Blackberry's, et al.

Nope, at least it doesn't in other countries I visit like Japan and Hong Kong...they're just as polite and patient as ever, although they have all of the same, or more of those devices.

This is purely about being raised in the new "me first" society we have here

Isn't this an ironic post on an internet message board? :lmao:

Yes, I agree it is. I realized that after I posted. I still stand by my words though. And... I do look up quite often. ;) No, really. :) :rotfl:

I agree. For there does seem anyway, to be more and more people that are all for them self. And for as long as I get mine, before you do, that is all that matters. Another words, my wants, needs, rights are more important than yours. I say, everyone truly should be created equal. However, for as long as cockroaches have existed, man has seen and experienced inequalities and human rights violations. So nothing really ever appears to change. Not that it cannot. But society has to actually do the work,as does the rest of the world. We have our work cut out for us. :scared1:

It's not just the younger generation that is into electronics that have lost the art, it is just as rampant in the older generation. On our cruise in Jan. my dh and I were first in line to get off the ship. I have a walker and was sitting on it. We had been there for at least 1/2 hr due to the port authorities holding back disembarkation. An elderly couple (looked to be in their 70's) were pushing past people until they got to me. Because of the walker it was harder to move past me. No one was going anywhere for a bit. Her comments to her dh just saw me seeing red. She informed her dh that since I had a walker I should be at the back not the front, and how dare I think that just because I had a walker I should be first. She was also trying to get her husband to try and move me off the walker so that they could get around me?????? At that point they were not going to get around me although they had pushed my dh away. We were first in line because we got down there first, and when does having a walker mean that I should automatically go to the back? I had to wait just like everyone else until the ship was cleared. There were other things said but they were not approved for this family board. I'm still not sure why they were in such a hurry as non of the excursion would have left as no one was being let off the ship.

Reminds me of the recent video I saw where the woman was walking through a mall, texting while walking, and walked/fell right into a water fountain.

I do agree, technology seems to give us instant gratification -- instant contact, instant info -- and for some people, that seems to mean that if they don't get instant satisfaction in all other areas, they get rude and snippy. And I think it will only get worse unless people become more thoughtful about how they deal with real people as human contact seems to be needed less and less.

I prefer another words actually. But thank you all the same for believing that you need to correct my spelling and or grammar. I don't feel the need to correct yours. I don't appreciate people either being unnecessarily rude.

What does "another words" mean to you? Just curious.

I agree with what you've otherwise said by the way.

I don't know if there's truth in your statement, or not, but that hasn't been my experience.

We were at TDL in august. The crowds were heavy and all day long we we were bumped, jostled and shoved. My standard when someone bumps into me is to politely say 'excuse me' and move on. While apparently the local custom is to say nothing and simply push through. At one point, I bumped into a woman in a shop and said 'excuse me'. Her Australian accent answered back that mine was the first pleasantry she heard all day.

This thread is strangely entertaining with the word usage.

I have had people sprint with their cart to get ahead of me in line! No need. I am not going to race you. One particular woman did this and then left her stuff on the belt to go get something she forgot. No apology. No, "I'll be right back.". No nothing. The cashier was done with the person ahead of her and turned to ask me if I was waiting, and I just shook my head and pointed to the other woman's stuff. She came back a few minutes later (I watched her walk to the back of the store) and mumbled a quick, "Sorry.", -- but really? Rude. Rude. Rude.

The cashier told me that customer does that kind of thing all of the time. I know I will avoid her if I see her again.
