Okay...I keep hearing conflicting stories. We booked a room at Portofino Bay from 05/31-06/05. Will we be able to enter Harry Potter? Or should we rearrange our whole vacation. Any input from others is welcomed.:confused3

I noticed you reply to a lot of posts. Are you an employee or do you have an inside source?

Neither. I just stay informed and have been to the parks a kabillion times.

Since you booked prior to the announcement of the grand opening, and are staying onsite, you have been guaranteed access to the Wizarding World just like the Harry Potter package people.

I hope you are right. Will we be able to ride the Forbidden Journey ride? I believe I booked the room before the Harry Potter package was available. I have called the hotel and they cannot confirm anything.

Just got a call from universal resorts on an email. They said that it is true anyone who booked prior to 3/25 with or without the package will get some access. We will get info either emailed prior to or/and at check in.

Just received an email from Universal. It goes as follows:

Because you reserved previously, you will receive a preview of the
Wizarding World of Harry Potter during your stay. Upon check in at the
resort you will be provided the specifics how to enter the preview.

Please note that the times of operation may very and availability of
specific attractions and shows are subject to change, but it is our
intention to offer you a preview of the entire area during your stay.

Thank you and have a great day!

The Universal reps seem to tell everyone a different story. I booked an onsite hotel several months ago for May 27 - 30. I called yesterday because I had read conflicting stories about whether anyone besides HP vacation package holders would be allowed in if the park opened prior to June 18. The first agent I spoke with was totally rude. She just kept saying "The only information we have is that the park will open June 18." She was very short and when I told her some things I had read on the Universal website that had changed later that same day, she denied it and argued with me. I then asked to speak with a manager, who was very nice, and told me that if the park is open early, beginning May 28 anyone who has a HP vacation package or who booked a tour with Virgin or who booked an onsite hotel prior to March 25 would be allowed access to HP. I then asked if that access would be restricted to certain areas or if those people would be allowed to access any attraction, including all the rides, and she said whatever is up and running at that time would be available to those people. She said to keep checking their website frequently, as they are expecting more information to be coming out shortly.

Oh, and you said you received an email from them, and when I asked her to send me an email, she said they could not put anything in writing at this time because everything is subject to change.

I can't afford to stay on-site especially with the parking charge per night. If we want to go to Universal we always have to stay off-site. It's cheaper to stay at Disney on-site than Universal which is really sad. We've got annual passes so I'm still kind of ticked by the way they're treating their passholders in all of this.

I received the very same email from the Royal Pacific, and another one that says that by staying close to the parks we will abale to take advantage of any soft opening, with possible restrictions on how much of HP might be open at that time. However, we will be there 5/20, a full week before the package dates. So, I assume that IF HP has a soft opening prior to 5/20 we'll have access?

The Wizarding World of
Harry Potter GRAND OPENING
JUNE 18th

Did anyone else see this? I do hope it is sooner but technically speaking "Spring 2010" doesn't end till June 21st
We will be there June 7th and 8th. I really hope at least the shops and restaurants will be open then.

RPH, Universal's least expensive hotel, has the same 4 star rating as Disney's most expensive hotel, GF.

Universal hotels are generally less expensive then similarly rated WDW hotels. Universal relies on offsite hotels to accommodate guests looking for less expensive, and lower rated properties. You can walk to Universal from several of those properties. You can't say the same thing about Disney's moderate and value hotels.

Universal has yet to announce what kind of previews will be available to AP holders. All Universal has said is guests who booked the HP package, even at less expensive offsite properites, will be allowed to take advantage of a "soft opening". Same with guests who stay onsite. I'm sure some other guests will also be able to take advantage of a soft opening.
