Hi all...

Well we're back in Ashford again, half way home :sad1:

I will do a more detailed TR in a a few days but thought i'd post the usual highs and lows run done now!

Lows really are just little niggles more than anything. We really did have a fantastic time.

Weather, obviously nobody's fault and we did have some lovely hours but it was really inconsistent. I'd look out before breakfast and it'd be blue sky and sunny, walk down stairs and it'd be grey and raining! Much like home though I guess! The last couple of days there were some torrential downpours though and we got soaked! I'm still trying to thaw my feet and was wearing flip flops!

Lack of characters... I've not seen it mentioned by anyone else so perhaps it was just our bad timing but we did not see a single character out on walk abouts in ever park. The official meet and greets were really busy when we went past them so the children didn't meet a single character until this morning when I queued with them for Minnie. We then had a last minute lunch at Cafe Mickey as I wanted them to at least get the usuals in. DS was goofy mad this trip and luckily he was there!

English show times. Another strange one but we've never had a problem in the past yet seemed to this time. There were much fewer English showings of Playhouse Disney and Stitch and the times for each were so far apart that it was hard to organise yourselves around them. We never wound up seeing Stitch (watched 3 times last trip!) and saw PLayhouse Disney just before we went home! The queues for the English showings were huge too as there was a heavy British presence (as expected!) so I'm sure people were getting turned away. Could definitely have done with more English screenings!

The parade. A completely unexpected low but I'm just not feeling the parade. I love the magic on parade theme, me and Skye sing it ALL the time but I didn't like that they just play the same song over and over. No stops. A few new carriages but essentially the same parade. Yup. Not impressed which I really wasn't expecting! :confused3

Service in Cafe MIckey, lengthy waits between courses which wouldn't have mattered but it meant we were there over two hours and only had 1.5hrs to run back into the parks before we left!

Eurotunnel. Excellent on way out and would definitely drive again but on the way back there were delays which were fine but when we got to the train to board they ran out of space after the car before us. Just whacked us on the next train, no explanation of when that one was due to leave or anything even though we were already delayed.

Ok now I sound like a right whinger! The lows really were just little things though even though I've babbled on far too much!

Highs!!!

Dreams. Amazing! After a pretty dire viewpoint on the first night that kind of spoilt that initial wow for me, the 2nd time made up for it. Skye and I waited from 8:30pm for a front row spot on Tuesday night and although it does distort the view slightly sitting that close, she was so pleased to have no one blocking her view!

The Sequoia Lodge. Thanks to my email the week before requesting a block close to the main building and just so happening to mention a few other things we got upgraded to a Montana room! It was a fair old trek still but was a lovely room and had a lake view (albeit minimal as there were loads of trees in the way!!) there were two stuffed Donald's sat on the beds waiting for the children too! We had a lovely afternoon in the pool yesterday which changed Skye's mind about which was her favourite hotel (was still the Cheyenne as she prefers the bunkbeds there!)

Shareholder discount/salon mickey. What can I say? All you shareholders know that feeling of the first knock on salon mickey feeling! Weird! But pretty cool all the same! Only went in twice and once they'd run out of food but we all enjoyed the breather regardless.

All the CMs we encountered were great (even in Cafe Mickey the waiter was trying his best I think it was just lack of staff!)

Converting Skye about POC. We went on this ride on our first day and Skye was not impressed to say the least. She wasn't last trip either as she hates the slides no matterhow much we say it's no different than slides anywhere! We eventually won her round after we went swimming at the sequoia and she wound up having an wicked afternoon on the flume there. She asked if that was bigger than the poc ones Nd we said it probably was (ssshhh!) lo and behold POC is now one of her favourites and we were struggling to get her to go on anything else last night!

Skye also succumbed to Daddy pleading with her to try BTM last night. Have a great picture for that one!! :rotfl:

There's so much more but my whole body is aching so I'm going to catch up on some sleep before driving home in the morning!

Ro x

what lovely highs :goodvibes!

Hope you get a good nights sleep and manage to thaw out your feet.

Welcome back, pleased you enjoyed your trip:goodvibes

glad you had a good time.

Surprised at the lack of characters .... we saw loads, although they were often mobbed (always wonder why they're not 'handled' better. Minnie was in the front lot of the studios quite regularly, and we saw Ariel, the Wicked Queen and a couple of others by the partners statue in the studios.

Stumbled across Aladdin, Daisy Duck, Peter Pan and Friar Tuck in Disneyland Park. Peter ran up behind a group and tapped a lady on the shoulder, the look on her face was priceless!

Welcome back and glad you had a good time! :goodvibes Like janiebubble we saw plenty of characters in the Studios (had a really funny time with Snow White's Evil Queen and Cruella) but like you, none wandering around in the main park. It just seems to be the luck of timing.

I think I agree with you a bit about the parade, I love the costumes and theme music but as you say, as they keep playing it repetitiously without variation it rather overdoes it. I'm not sure I really miss the stops though, I can still enjoy bits like the pirates playing around and Bert and Pinocchio dancing without need for them to actually stop. Seeing the princesses walking around was nice if you happened to be in the right spot but it was just frustrating if you were stood between stops. Same for the Stars and Cars parade, I much prefer it now - we can show up just before and have some serious hand-waving fun (from DS) for the five minutes it takes for the characters to pass without wasting well over an hour on a parade including all the waiting about beforehand.

Glad the SL hotel was such a high, especially as we are staying there for the first time in September!

Well done for converting your DD to Pirates, it is a beautiful ride and as a bonus, often one you can just walk onto.

Hope you catch up on your sleep soon, mind you I'm not sure I have yet! :goodvibes

Welcome home!

Glad your trip on a whole was positive, very much looking forward to the TR :thumbsup2

Can i ask which email address you used to contact the SL? :goodvibes

thats a loveley idea to have the toys waiting on the beds on arrival, how much did that cost please?

Welcome back! I've just written our highs and lows and it seems a lot of them were the same as yours :thumbsup2
We also failed to see any random characters, only those with big queues at designated spots. But I'm glad to see that other people have spotted characters, hope that we were just unlucky.
I guess I agree about the new parade, while its nice, it lacks the emotional kick of Just Like We Dreamed It.

Thanks! I was really confused when I woke up this morning! Almost like I'd blocked out the sadness of leaving DLP! :lmao:

I think we were just really unlucky! Last time we were virtually falling over characters in the Studios but this time I think they were maybe only there for specific times in the afternoons when we tended to go back to the hotel for a few hours. We queued for Minnie in the front lot yesterday and did pass Duffy at his meet and greet one morning for which the queue was really short but for some reason (can't remember why) we couldn't stop. Doesn't help that DH is more whingey about queues than the kids are! he'll roll his eyes at a 25 minute queue! Although to be fair the queue times stated were hugely inaccurate on several occasions! He and DD queued for Star Tours which stated 20 mins and me and DS (thankfully asleep in his buggy for most of the time) were waiting for 1.5 hours for them to come out!!!

I agree that the stops don't really add anything as you still get the whole playfulness anyway and I wouldn't want to be sat with the little ones for too long but it just seemed to pass by in a flash! I must be the complete opposite to you in that way as we didn't even bother watching Stars in Cars for that reason! (we've seen it so many times we used the time to sneak on a few shorter queueing rides)

Thanks, we've just got home as the traffic was awful thanks to the weather but don't think it'll be long before we're all back in bed! Just sorting through the pictures.

Pirates is mine and DS favourite ride. The drops are just enough excitement for me (I'm a huge wuss and was terrified the first time we went on it last trip as I thought the drop was the same as the climb upwards - I'd forgotten there were two drops!) and I love all the detail. DS just stares with his mouth wide open for the whole thing, he bought a hat and sword with his spending money and now thinks he's Captain Hook (he swears blind Hook and Smee are in there! he's only 3 so hasn't watched the PoC films yet but I'm looking forward to introducing him to Jack Sparrow!!)

Welcome home!

Thanks, it was despite the few set backs.

I just emailed the guest relations the week before and they forwarded my request to the hotel. dlp.guest.communication@disney.com

Nothing! I had mentioned it was my DHs 30th in a few weeks and that was the main reason for the trip (we were supposed to be going to Florida this year for his 30th and his dads 60th but unfortunately that had to be put on hold) Last time the person who booked us in made a note that we were return guests (we'd just got back and booked immediately to go back!) without me even asking and we got the same room we'd had before (I'd asked for a similar room as we were really happy with the location) and a soft toy for DD (DS didn't count on the booking then as was only 2) We have been really lucky and I wouldn't always expect it but it was a lovely touch.
I'm sure you could ask if you could purchase them beforehand and see what they can do :goodvibes

We almost bumped into you - literally! - coming out of the Sequoia Lodge yesterday morning. I only realised a few minutes later that I recognised you from your TRs!! :rotfl:

Well... at least I'm pretty certain it was you. If not you had a double there!

Haha we've been spotted by everyone this week :rotfl: I was just saying to my sister its a shame I didn't get to meet any DISers, as i knew so many people were there.
Sorry if we careered into you on our way to the parks....I was more hyper than a lot of the kids :rolleyes1

Aw! I'd have run after you but thought it might seem a little strange being chased round the lake by some nutter introducing themselves by their screen name! :lmao:

Oh and you didn't railroad us don't worry! lol! Me half asleep and pushing a buggy whilst trying to keep the little monkey in it is not a good mix!!

Welcome back, can't wait to see your photos. I'm glad your DD has changed her feelings towards POTC.........such a great ride, especially for a family

Thank you for posting your highs and lows
Kaye

Sorry Ro, having only ever met one Skye who was female I assumed wrongly!

Pirates are all the same to my DS too. He used to refer to POTC as "Hook's boat" but now with the newly restored pirate ship open again he usually means that when he says it and POTC is "aharr, cap'n" said with a salute!

I remember seeing a little boy running around with a sword, I'll have to look carefully at your TR photos and see if it was the same one. :goodvibes

Welcome back! Sounds like you've had a fantastic time :thumbsup2

Salon Mickey is great isn't it? Lovely place to relax for a wee while. :goodvibes

Skye is a she!! sorry if I confused you! I meant it's always been mine and DS (Cole) favourite ride and we needed to convert Skye round to our thinking!! :)

Welcome back! :goodvibes Glad you had a great trip!

Congratulations on converting Skye to POTC - our DD loves it too now & BTM, which is great because there's only so many times you can ride IASW without going slightly mad!! (4 from experience... :lmao: )

Oh yeah it really was a blessing!! IASW has always been our family favourite but having gone on it on average around 3 times a day for 5 days by the end I was using the time to rest my eyes more than anything else!!

I blooming love pirates!! I'm still a little scared of BTM and haven't done it since my very first trip in 98!, I know that sounds really daft but I really don't like rides! Cole is still 6 cm too small and he was gutted about it, DH had to take him over to the CM with the measuring stick just to proove to him that he's still too little! Funny thing is Skye was tall for her age and managed to get on when she was barely 3.5 but hated it and he's almost 4 and still has a lot of veg to eat!! (it's a good incentive for veg eating eh?!! :rotfl: has worked since anyway!! ) He honestly can't wait! He was puffing out his little tummy saying "look I'm bigger! measure me again!!"
