Friday, June 27 departed out of Indy on Delta, arrived Orlando, rented car from National, full size Buick Century for $231 (9 days) and headed to Daytona. Checked into the Beachcomer $69 a nite) and had a fabulous view of the Atlantic from our balcony. Ate at Bennigans and did some race shop shopping.
June 28 Breakfast at the Beachcomer and headed to the beach for a few hours. After cleaning up, ate lunch at McDonalds and stopped at a flea market to check out racing items. Headed to the Earnhardt Tribute Concert. Bad seats, great show! Family thanked mom for bringing ponchos. Needed these around 6pm.
June 29 Checked out after breakfast at the Beachcomer and headed to the Magic Kingdom. Day started out great with getting to ride in the front cab of the monorail, chatting with a nice driver and receiving co-pilot license cards. Had a fabulous day, except for a few brief showers. Ate lunch at Cosmic Rays, our family favorite, and saw lots of characters. hint: stop in periodically throughout the day in Exhibition Hall on Main Street. Characters in there. Left around 9pm, stopped at a Burger King for a late supper and headed to Sarasota where we spent the next 3 days shopping, beaching, pooling and eating.
Headed to Orlando on Thursday, July 2 and checked into the Marriott Village Fairfield Inn (our 3rd time there). This was $69 a nite. Had requested a room with a view of the courtyard or pool and got the pool which we later found out gave us a great view of the fireworks at Pleasure Island. After settling in, headed to Daytona for the Pepsi 400 qualifying. Afterwards, headed back to Orlando.
July 4, after breakfast at the Fairfield, headed to the pool for a few hours. After cleaning up, hit some of the outlets and got some great deals on Disney buys. Returned to the Fairfield to pick up some glow necklaces purchased at home at Dollar Tree and ate supper at Pizzeria Uno's, a favorite tradition when in Orlando.
Earlier in the day we went to Fort Wilderness to the marina to rent a boat but when we got there they were not renting due to a storm that was within 6 miles (which never did hit). Oh, well!
After supper we went to Downtown Disney to shop and see fireworks. When we returned to our room we saw fireworks at Pleasure Island from our room.
July 5, daughter and I caught a bus to the Magic Kingdom and dad and son headed to Daytona for the Pepsi 400. Great day except for some bus trouble. While watching fireworks, we stopped for popcorn and a drink and headed to the parking lot (literally running) in order to catch the 10:30 bus back to the Fairfield. We got there at 10:29 and not a bus in sight. About 11:30 (the last bus of the night) came. He asked for our ticket and I said "what ticket"? I knew they were supposed to charge us $5 per person for transportation from their website but no one at the Fairfield mentioned it. They just gave me the bus schedule. The morning bus driver didn't say anything either. I told him he wasn't there at 10:30 either.
Sunday, July 6, slept in late, grabbed some quick breakfast and headed to the airport where we returned our car and checked in with Delta. They said "your 2:15 flight has a mechanical problem and will be 1 and 1/2 hours late. You will miss your connection". They got us on a 5:25pm flight to Atlanta, Delta put us up in a Red Roof Inn and gave us our meal vouchers. At 6am Monday, July 7 we shuttled to the airport, got our luggage weighed (one piece was big and heavy) and they were going to charge us $25 but ended up giving us a box to repack some stuff. Caught the 8:25am flight to Indy and returned home.
All in all, it was a great summer vacation.
