What's your point? You tip based on what you can afford to do. If you can afford a$100 spa treatment you can afford the tip. If you choose to ine in the exclusive restaurants, pay the tip. Cruising is expensive. If you want to vacation on-the-cheat, go camping for vacation.

Having been in the service industry while in school and living off tips I'm usually a good tipper but I didn't realize how much it would be all added up like that. I too am traveling with my DH, DD(4) and DS(3) and with the four of us its steep but doable. Good service demands good tips, I just hope the service is worth it. Its our first cruise so I have nothing to compare it to.

As others have pointed out, your numbers are a bit odd. I budget $100 per person for a 7 night cruise. The suggested tips come to $84, and the $100 just makes the calculations easier. Then I throw in a little extra for "fudge factor."

The suggested tips include your stateroom host and your main dining tips. Anything beyond that is your choice. (technically, that amount is your choice, but.....) The Youth Activities Counselors (Oceaneer's Club/Lab) are not a tipped position. If you give them a cash tip, they are not permitted to keep it. It must be turned over to the manager and the pooled tips will be used for a department party. I'm not sure if this policy applies to the babysitting in the nursery or not.

Room service--$1-2 per person getting food.

Palo--$10 or more per person dining.

Excursions--you are generous!

Spa--OK, I don't count that in the tip budget; I put it in the spa budget if I opt for those services.
