This has become one of our favorite spots these days. I can remember the old menus they had there--with things like fried Gator tail, and seafood nachos. Now the menu has changed considerably and the food is right up there with the other fine WDW hotel restaurants.
Our dinner this trip was on Sunday evening, and PS were for 6:00 PM. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were the first guests to show up. By the time 6:00 rolled around there were about 20 people waiting to get in, and by the time we left, the place was packed solid. It also must have been a special childrens nite or something--at least it seemed that way. There were children everywhere!! Our table overlooking the lagoon was sandwiched in between 2 tables of about 12 people each, most of whom seemed to be kids. The noise level was quite high that nite!!
In any case, our server appeared promptly and took our drink orders. Mrs. U went--as usual--with the suggested menu wine pairings. Since there are no beers listed on the menu, I had to listen to the server recite the 10-12 offerings they have (hoping of course that he didn't forget any of them!) and then decided on Dixie Blackened Vodoo.
Narcoossee's menu usually has a "special" Chef's catch section, and this time we ordered exclusively from that. For an appetizer, we decided to split theGolden Fried Rock Shrimp, with key West Pineapple/pepper Slaw and Spicy Key Lime Mustard. I was hesitant about ordering this--last time we had rock shrimp, they were about the size of a large cashew. But these were suprisingly large--about 8 or 9 to the plate and very tasty. They disappeared fast, along with that slaw!!
For my entree, I opted for Pan-Roasted Wahoo w/roasted garlic and Spring Onion Risotto. Mrs U had the Grilled swordfish with oven-roasted vegetables. Both fish were supurb-and cooked just right. Both are meaty "steak" fish and it's quite easy to overcook and dry them out. But not so in this case.
For dessert, I decided on the house special Key Lime Creme Brulee, while Mrs. U went for the Strawbwerry Shortcake w/ Fresh Strawberrys. Both were quite good.
Service was excellent thru -out and we left Narcoossee's quite satisfied with our meal.

This place sounds very good, and a little different cuisine that I would usually eat. Would you consider Narcosseee's over Citrico's or the California Grill.

I'm looking for three really nice "fine" dining restaurant's for my Jan. 2004 trip. But, don't worry V&A's is on top of my list.

Fantastic Review!!!

Another great review. Thanks for posting.

Seafood nachos! I remember those. Someone in my family even tried them as an appetizer once. Do you remember when they served the very good sourdough loaf with a trio of butters one of which was 'gator butter? Actually we liked the food very much in the early years when it was kind of a steak and seafood menu. The middle years when seafood nachos, etc. appeared we frequented it less often. For the last three years or so it has been sooo good. Ever since that young lady became the head chef. It is my daughter's favorite restaurant at WDW (although she hasn't dined at V&A).

My son had the wahoo in late March and loved it too. The desserts sound scrumptious!

Does anyone else miss Narcoossee's for lunch? It was so pleasant to leave the MK midday and take the launch to Narcoossee's.

Thanks again for another great review!!!!!!!! We haven't been to Narcoosee's in a few years. We always enjoyed our dinners there just haven't had the chance to get back. I think we will put it on our list for our vacation in June!!!!!!!!!!

Uncleromulus - your reviews are always appreciated and GREAT!! I do have a question though. In another dining review, a previous poster had reported that there is a new $49 pp price fix option called the Narcoossee's Knot. Was this on the menu when you dined there, and if it was, what information can you provide. THANKS!!

Uncleromulus-
I appreciate your rview, but the only problem is now...do DH and I eat at Narcoossee's or Flying Fish for our "adult's night out"....hmmm, maybe both...lol.

Wow.. I'd love to have dinner with you and Mrs U.... not a chicken finger in sight :D

And I forgive the remark about the "large cashew" casshew being my nickname and all :p

>>^..^<<

Uncleromulus; We always enjoy your reviews; and when you hit one of our hot buttons, it is even more special. We love Narcoossee's, and make it a special part of our vacation. We usually ask for Deb who has relatives in Toms River, NJ. It makes for some easy talk, and we settle into a great meal. However, I did notice no mention of the butternut squash soup, (a fave of my DD (13). Was it on the menu, or was the tone of the evening not right for the soup??

That soup was indeed on the menu, but had to be skipped if we wanted any room for dessert!!

Narcoosee's Knot is still available. 4 courses (appetizer, soup or salad, entree and dessert for $49 (excluding Lobster)

Mike: Tough to compare those 3 restaurants, as all 3 are on my top 10 list. I'd rule it out if a quiet dinner for 2 is what you want, but otherwise its a great restaurant. They also have a great pork entree, Filet, chicken and scallops along with the fish offerings.

A short story on those Nachos. Mrs U and I ordered them as an appetizer once. Must have been 30 of them on a large platter--would have fed an army!! We ate most of them and then our meal. Stuffed dosen't do justice to how we felt after that meal. We were staying at the Poly at the time and had walked over to the GF along the beach. Well-the walk back was an entirely different event. Almost didn't make it w/o an "accident" if you get my drift---

Mr. U., your review makes me bummed that we cancelled our PS here. We were at WDW 5/7-5/14 (I have yet to do my food reviews!), and we were so pooped the evening we had PS at Narcoossee's that we cancelled and went to Jiko instead (since it was just three floors down from our room we did find a way to drag ourselves there). Jiko was great, but I guess I'll just have to schedule another trip (oh bummer!) so I can get to Narcoossee's!

Uncleromulus--I very rarely disagree w/you about restaurants, but this time I have to! I ate at Narcoossee's a couple of months ago and had an awful experience. I ordered a scallop dish that was absolutely awful. The scallops had a horrible flavor to them that suggested they were less than fresh. I told the waiter (politely, of course) and he agreed to take it off the bill. Then the chef comes out and basically argues with me that there was nothing wrong with the scallops. I wasn't looking to fight w/anyone, I just could NOT eat my dinner! My boyfriend's lamb chops came out undercooked twice before he could finally eat them. It was just disappointing, overall. Dessert was pretty good, though! :p
